Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin (D) praised the federal government's response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene in his state.
"We're getting tremendous help from the federal government. President Obama has committed to giving us all the help we need. I spoke with him last night. It's important to know we go wacked hard," said Shumlin to CBS News Tuesday morning.
Vermont was hit by some of the worst hurricane related flooding along the east coast. Rivers overflowed knocking out bridges and buildings and flooding towns. There are three confirmed hurricane deaths in the state and rescue workers are searching for another missing person, according to Shumlin.
The governor defended Vermont's decision not to evacuate prior to Irene.
When asked if he would do anything differently in the lead-up to the hurricane Shumlin said, "absolutely not."
