Bloggers claim Peter DeFazio and Earl Blumenauer are socialists
Democratic Rep. Peter DeFazio has been called a lot of things over his 12 terms in Congress -- hot head, visionary, renegade, principled, effective and determined.

Now, if a burst of activity on websites and blogs in recent weeks is to be believed, DeFazio is something else -- a socialist.

And hes not alone. The posts, all of which piggyback from a single offering that has been replicated on dozens of websites in recent weeks, says there are 70 card-carrying Socialists in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Earl Blumenauer, another Democrat from Oregon. (The number actually varies. Some posts say 70 while others insist its either 73 or 76. One post used both 76 and 75 in the same entry.)

An Aug. 12 post on the website for a group called Sovereign Citizens United mentions DeFazio and Blumenauer by name. It also says this: "Im sure if you asked random people on the street if we had open socialists in the US Congress, they would say well only Bernie Sanders (Senate). But the right answer is much, much worse."

1. We are all Socialists. Countries with functioning Governments
all around the world, functioning governments some
mix of Capitalism and Socialism. It is the proportion
that differs.

Countries all around the world have adopted some parts
of Socialism. There varying degrees of Socialism dependent
upon how much each country has used. Pure Socialism does
not exist.

along with another another system. We have ended up with
varying degrees of MIXED CAPITALISM and SOCIALISM.

Take China--one of the countries with more Socialism than
others but they also have Capitalism

Sweden has more Socialism than USA but still has strong
Capitalism permeating the system.

USA has less Socialism than Sweeden and Heavier with Capitalism.

We are all Socialists in some ways. Yes our SOCIAL SAFETY NET
(SS Medicare Medicaid, Health Care, EPA, etc.) Most Americans
support these programs. Even TEA PARTY SUPORTERs say Keep
your hands off my Social Security and Medicare"

It is time we call a spade a spade and not act like spineless
wimps. Embrace the truth and Speak the Truth.

Mixed Economies work. Do we want a country totally run by
business, for business. When some person calls you a socialist,
we know they are ignorant or really out there, if they want
Business making all the rules. Businesses are designed to
make a profit. This is a good thing for Business. Do you
want business deciding who gets treatment or who is left
to die. This is ok for Business but we need a country
who keeps the people's interests first. Therefore, I am
proud to be an American in a mixed economy. Right now
we need to put more power in the interest of the people.
These who call us Socialists will give all power to Business
and history tells us what happens then.

2. Another reason I'm proud to have Peter and Earl represent my state!
Seriously...card-carrying socialists? Like that evil socialist President Obama? I get those e-mails from a Texas relative and just shake my head. Wish I lived in DeFazio or Blumenauer's districts so I could vote for them. I'm stuck with Greg Walden, a card-carrying idiot.

Tired Old Cynic
