I know we can disagree, and in fact I expect we will.
but I will raise my glass to a very good job to the following not in any particular order.

1.- FEMA and all other Federal Agencies who coordinated a lot of this. (Yes leadership came from the top, and it shows)

2.- Governors who enacted plans

3.- Mayors all across that followed through with what needed to be done

4.- The media... yes they gave us the usual crap but they also transmitted the necessary civil defense information. Of course it is in the eye of the beholder, to some it was yellow journalism... but you know what they also gave out VALUABLE info... And if you think all they did was hype, we part company.

Thankfully we had a relatively low loss of life... and they are not done with checking the property damage, The last one can always be fixed...

Stay safe people, stay safe...

As to the funny commentary... from fox, lets get rid of the NWS... and of course Boehner, let's defund the storm chasers... and my all time fav... we cannot have disaster relief without cuts... from the child Cantor... well on a political level, time to strike. These people ARE IDIOTS.

1. Never thought I would say FEMA did a good job.
Nice to see Obama concerned and right in the middle of it! SO much better then the Strumin Demon that showed up after Katrina.

*there is evidence Bush didn't win in 2000 and cheated in Ohio in 2004 so his legitimacy as POTUS will always be in question.

3. FEMA was the model we used to set our own civil
defense... under Bush it became a disaster... but otherwise they do their job, quietly and efficiently. THey did not work during Katrina, but IMHO it was by design... Ron Paul wants to get rid of it, and it worked. So that won't help his cause.

16. When staffed with experienced Emergency management
leaders and workers FEMA will work as it should. The Repugs intentionally tried to break the organization with Brownie and other incompetents so they could say that the government organizations don't work.

When multiple states are impacted by disaster, single state responses will not work and are not effective.

4. Being proactive is what has made this a non tragedy
It's good to know our Federal and State governments and non-profit social organizations are prepared so well.

6. I agree, Nadin. They seriously deserve our thanks for a job well done.
I'd only add... my thoughts are with the crews working to restore power. The electric companies are cruds, but the workers are great. The crews have so many people depending on them to get power back, and I'm sure they're conscious of that. Related to that of course, but maybe a little different, those clearing the fallen trees.

Glad you started a 'thank you' thread, Nadin, we needed one.

10. Amen! As for the media, you have to admit...
FOX was more entertaining, in part, than the rest. I'm referring to the article on ocean foam.

Although the media can be irritating, we WANT the information WHEN we turn on the TV. To make that happen, they have to repeat and repeat information. It drives me up a tree, but if you are in the area being affected, you want as much info as you can get so you can make a wise decision.

I'm sure there would have been a lot more people injured or killed if the media hadn't shown the dangers.

We are becoming a Monday morning arm-chair commentator on everything, it seems.

13. I notice some are very offended at being 'over warned'
and perhaps lead to look silly taking action. They misunderstand the entire point of preparations. They are as silly as the libertarians.

18. That is true
If there were no warnings etc they would complain, "see government doesn't work"!

I would rather have people prepared for the worst and nothing happens, versus not prepared at all.
