Ouch... DC Public Schools closed because of damage that turns out to predate earthquake

Yeah, that's kind of funny/sad. DCPS closed today to do inspections, and a lot of damage was found... but it's turning out that a lot of the damage predates the earthquake (in fairness, some of it is from the quake, too).

What will be interesting is seeing how cracked roofs and unsealable doors stand up to the hurricane later this week.

1. Couldn't the earlier damage been made worse by the quake?

2. More likely that the earthquake became an excuse to get funds to make much needed repairs.

Get the funds, fix the schools. It should be a no-brainer.
