Republicans: Forget Jobs-Lets Focus On "Embarrassing The President"

Rep. Lamar Smith Wants Hearings To "Embarrass The President"

On Thursday, Roll Call reported that Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) was planning to use his House Judiciary Committee gavel this fall to promote a "jobs agenda." This would represent a significant shift for a committee that has largely been focused on radical attacks on undocumented immigrants.

....................

Smith quickly abandoned his "jobs agenda," telling right-wing radio host Joe Pagliarulo that he was now planning to hold hearings on the subject with the avowed purpose of trying to "embarrass the President." Smith also suggested that the House Appropriations Committee would defund the administration's ability to implement their plan.

SMITH: As to what our recourse is, what we can do, we can do a couple things, at least in the House where the Republicans are in the majority. We can conduct hearings, oversight hearings, we can pull in administration officials, make them testify under oath, find out what's going on, try to, frankly, embarrass the President and push back and get the American people on our side to push back against the administration. Secondly, the Appropriations Committee can defund any of these efforts, but unfortunately, on the appropriations level, you can only defund it one year at a time, so that's not a long-term solution. Frankly, Joe, the long-term solution is, if you don't like what the President is doing, you have an opportunity in a year and a half to change presidents, and that's ultimately where the answer is going to lie.

1. They stated before, they want "Obama a One Term President"
as their chief goal, not actually the "laser focus on jobs" during the campaign. :puke:

3. "...and get the American people on our side to push back against the administration."
A direct acknowledgement that the American people do not support Smith's position.

4. Of course, and yet Obama has spent most of his term trying to reason with these devils

and despite repeated slap downs by the GOP he kept coming back. He needed to fight them not appease them. I'm sorry to say but I believe that Obama may very well be a one-term president and if the GOP takes over the WH next year along with a GOP congress--I really fear for this country. In many ways nominating Barack Obama despite his many winning qualities was a huge mistake. I'm not sure he was ready for the job--and I voted for him and supported him for much of this term until I came to the conclusion that he isn't going to change and he isn't going to fight. He is what he is. I'll vote for him in 2012, but without the same enthusiasm.

5. Thank you, Lamar Smith!! Kill our jobs bill NOW
The American people are one hundred percent behind your plan to snatch the funding for Obama's Jobs bill and make sure he is embarrased by vast unemployment among the people. We don't need those jobs as much as we need a huge tax cut for the rich! YEAH!!!

9. I don't get it. Why should they hide? We don't do anything about them. We appease them.
We give them stuff, sometimes more than they ask for. We let them get away with crime - any crime.

Why should they hide?

12. Not only not hiding it, but bragging about it..
Republicans feel just as their leader Rush Limbaugh stated, they want the President to fail, which by the way means the country must fail as well...

13. I know....It's scary....It's like all "order" is crumbling, or something.
That may not be an accurate assessment of why it seems scary,

but it's the only word I can think of ....It's as if it's not

only the substance that's wrong, its the "style", the growing lack

of even the appearance of civility. It just

feels VERY different from how the first half century of my life felt.

15. I'm attempting to get through to his DC office after being deferred
there by his San Antonio office. No answer at the DC office. Seems no one is at work and the San Antonio office could not give me any information on how many jobs Smith as created for his district.
