How can the teabaggers be so insane they want to get rid of the EPA?
I really don't care how "business over the individual" you are, how can anyone think getting rid of the EPA is a good idea?

Can they honestly be so amazingly stupid as to believe businesses would not promptly begin polluting and poisoning the environment?

Can they honestly be so amazingly stupid as to believe businesses would not promptly begin polluting and poisoning what we eat and drink to an even greater extent then they do now?

Do they honestly believe the EPA is responsible for the lack of jobs today?

As far as I am aware, every single one of the repug candidates wants to eliminate the EPA... This alone should have every remotely sane American voting against them. This alone should have people saying "What the FUCK? How fucking insane are you repugs?"

The repugs are all running on a platform of "We want to kill you".

I'll say it again. Voting D is not voting the lesser of two evils, it is voting to keep the insane from power. It is also voting to stay alive.

1. Reagan gutted the EPA and he was considered sane.
They just want to finish it off...

would now consider Raygun sane. That rat bastard was a key force in helping the religious right and their ilk acquire a foothold in government. He should have been shot as a traitor to the country, and his entrails spread through each and every staye that helped get him elected, even if it was the whole country. There have been crooks in the white house many times through history, but Raygun is in a category of his very own.

I hate Raygun. With a passion. He was one of the framers of this total divide between the Repugs and the Dems in the past 30 years. And Repugs want to put his image on the dime. Assholes.

The teabaggers celebrate him as some kind of hero when he did more to fuck this country then anyone else.

37. no honey no one considered reagan sane
if i in the new orleans wilderness far removed from position of power knew reagan had alzheimer's in 1980 everyone knew it

there are quotes from his stint as governor of california that made it clear that he already suffered from dementia

he was not voted into office because he was sane but because he was a puppet and malleable -- the only people who thought reagan was sane were the racists and racists are not sane, they just met his breed of crazy in the middle

8. They're insane enough to be teabaggers -- all other insanity follow from that.
They embrace a fantasy world view that disparages facts. Thus, the truth means nothing to them. Foreseeable consequences are to be fiercely ignored.

9. They get mad when they change the oil in their Dukes of Hazzard car
The EPA won't let them dump the used motor oil in the creek.

They also believe the EPA is making them use "them faggy curly-cue light bulbs", recycle their garbage, and buy low octane unleaded gas. Lifestyle changes are so difficult for some people unless it's a 52" flat screen plasma TV.

15. I don't know that I agree with that
I mean... It might work out good for CA in some ways but probably not in others. What would they do about products made in other states? Not allow import or expect them to live up to CA standards? I am all for high EPA standards but think it is something that really needs to be at the federal level.

11. the problem with EPA
is that is named incorrectly. RWers and corporations have disparaged the word "environment" so it has lost meaning.
It should be called the Public Health Agency because when people realize it is their own health at risk they would be less likely to get rid of it.
To them "environment" means hiking trails, protecting wildlife they could care less about and taking even more money from the super wealthy.
Republicans are followers and they seem to go along with anything they are told.

17. It's easy to understand..
Imagine your mind is a computer. Everything you evaluate as "good" lights up a little light labeled "good" and you respond with liking and support. Everything you evaluate as "bad" likewise lights up a little light labeled "bad" and you respond with hatred and aggression.

Now disconnect the two lights, and swap the wires. There you go.

It seems to have to do with being abused by authorities at the same time you are dependent on them for your survival, usually but not always in childhood. The "Stockholm syndrome" is an example of this effect in adults who have otherwise already formed a moral system.

25. I think a big chunk of it is that we're far enough away from
VISIBLE pollution in this country that people don't see what the big deal is with a trace amount of mercury or sulphur or lead or whatever coming out of a smokestack.

Our rivers don't run red, they don't catch on fire, and there are fish in them.

The thing that I think is baffling about this is that the EPA isn't the agency that really holds up development projects, but the baggers are too stupid to realize that. Fish and Wildlife and the Army Corps are the big gorillas in the room of environmental regulation. Unless you're running a landfill or a paint factory, the EPA's not going to show up at your door with a cease and desist order.

27. Them dang Socialists
are tryin to tell us what to do. There's a pathological reflex in teabaggers to anything that sounds like authority other than their authorized masters like Rush, Hannity, Bachmann, all the usual suspects.

A family member who has that reflex remarked to me recently about a billboard; the Oregon Humane Society was urging everyone to "end petlessness" by adopting a shelter animal. His take on that was that the OHS was going to FORCE us all to have pets, and he was having none of that socialist stuff.

Hard to have a productive conversation or debate with someone who appears to be just barely smarter than an onion.

That's pretty much what it boils down to.

31. It comes from being dumb
It comes from being gullible
It comes from being sold a line of propaganda 24/7 from Fox, nurtured by wishy-washy moral equivalence from the so-called liberal media
It comes from not being able to think well enough to understand cause and effect

I read something recently written in Europe that reminded its readers that only in the U.S. was global warming questioned.

Remember to teabaggers, ALL guv'mint is evil.

34. I tried that once...
I once tried to figure out how conservatives think. I got a headache. I came to the conclusion that they do not think. That is why their ideas are so lame, nonsensical, and counterproductive.

I no longer try to figure out why they think some of the things they think. I hate headaches.

35. it isn't insanity, it's stupidity, and there's a difference
Edited on Fri Aug-19-11 10:01 PM by pitohui
insanity is a disease, and sometimes the medicines work for the disease, not often, but occasionally, it can be treated

you can't fix stupid

the folks who want to die to make billionaires even richer aren't insane they're STUPID, the reagan voters weren't insane, they were STUPID and racists

there are insane, mentally ill people on both sides of the aisle, there are DUers who have frankly discussed their mental health issues but you notice how we rarely encounter a DUer who is truly, doggedly stupid??? plenty of us may be "insane" or crazy or what have you, but we're struggling to improve ourselves

the thing is, crazy people know they have an issue and they're fumbling around for ways to fix it

you can't fix stupid and , more disturbingly, most truly die hard stupid people think they're SMART
