Censorship on Facebook?!
This link is banned: http://pleasecutthecrap.typepad.com/main/what-has-obama-done-since-january-20-2009.html

Check out this article about it. 2 people I know are on "probation" and are not allowed to post links or pictures for 2 weeks!

Well, if anyone clicks through to that, you may be accused
of posting THE LIST. A lot of people don't like that list. I've never posted it myself, but others have.

1. People on the internet really need to learn what censorship is
Don't like their rules, start your own site. No one is censoring you, you can do it.

2. It's still censorship. It's not just not prohibited censorship.
Only government censorship is prohibited. Censorship by private concerns isn't. It's still censorship, though.

5. I don't see it that way
It seriously takes away from what censorship really is. I see these cries of censorship far to often (not just here, on pretty much every board or site where one can post their own content) because people can't post their own pet prohibited thing where it does not belong. There is plenty of places to post ones crap without crying about how you are being censored when you try to put it where it is not wanted.

6. You're confusing 1st Amendment rights with censorship.
The government can't take away your freedom of speech. The government can't censor it.

Censorship simply means the prohibition of speech, writing, or other forms of expression. Almost any private concern can censor you, and they often do.

It's a matter of word definition.

9. It is a matter of definition
Perhaps on a technical note you may be correct but when ones cries about how some site is censoring them, the thought that comes to mind is that they are trying to stop your message completely and that is simply not true. It is far to often used to say that a given site is trying to hide or eliminate what you want to say and that is rarely true. It is almost always because the topic either does not fit with the sites purpose or because they are a commercial concern that does not want to get involved in anything controversial.

10. I object when someone says that a private entity is stopping
their freedom of speech. It doesn't bother me when they complain about being censored. I guess I'm a stickler for accurate language. Nobody has freedom of speech in someone else's publication. A lot of people forget that, it seems, and there's all kinds of whining about it on lots of forums and other places.

Private entities can censor whatever the heck they want, and they frequently do.

My favorite story about this was on a forum that was on the website of a seller of marine stuff. Some moron started posting advertising spam from some other marine supply outlet, then started screaming about his "first amendment rights" when the owner of the forum unceremoniously deleted the postings. He never did understand that he didn't get to advertise a competitor on the site, and finally got banned. The equivalent would be someone posting the same right-wing crap on DU that they posted on Free Republic. That actually happens sometimes here.

4. I saw this warning posted this morning. I thought it was just another hoax, but maybe....
‎"HEADS UP: A new tactic that is being used on some of us ... There has been a surge of friend requests from Republicans and Evangelicals. Here is what they do - they 'friend' you, then once your posts hit the activity stream, they flag them as spam or inappropriate which gets your account suspended for 15 days, meaning you can't post on people's walls."

Some people add people they don't really know, or accept every request they get. I don't. But I could imagine someone using this tactic.

and how pathetic and lame.

They must be very afraid that social media can be an effective way to inform and warn people of their behavior.

14. One of my FB friends just said she's "suspended"...
just saw the post a few minutes ago. She's very vocal on fracking, clean water and other environmental issues. Strikes me as a wonderful person who I am happy to call a friend.

Fuck. Looks like the really is a war on liberals and progressives.
