I just realized something listening to Eddie Izzard on the YouTubes...
He was talking about historic perspective in the US vs Europe.

We think 50 years ago is ancient history. We move about, hardly anyone has long time roots. Our perspective is so shallow, so ephemeral that it is easy to understand how some people can believe that the earth being 6,000 years old is acceptable...

For most people who have a perspective beyond their personal experience can see the folly in this notion, but I get how someone who feels isolated could believe in this, especially in the US...

Just a thought...

9. This is really true.
I was in Scotland years ago, and the guide was talking about the old part of Edinburgh, and the new part...

The new part was older than the United States.

It was an amazing thought, seeing that very different perspective.

10. I don't know-- fundamentalists seem to make a fetish of believing things that
are demonstrably untrue. And it's not like human history in North America begins with the english, either-- people have been here for thousands of years, and there's concrete evidence that anyone can go and see that proves it.
