Where pleasing what represents itself as the "Democratic Base" here would cause you lose a primary in most places. In the slim number of cases where this is not true for the primary, such a position would lose you the general fairly often.

It is simply a matter of numbers, they have the numbers and we generally don't. Pleasing the base, but not getting elected is as close to pointless as you can get.
