Pomeranian Kills 6-Week-Old Girl
http://www.igorilla.com/gorilla/animal/2001/pomeranian.html
A small Pomeranian dog killed a 6-week-old baby while the infant's caretaker briefly left the child unattended to warm a bottle of milk, authorities said.

The relative, who was caring for the infant girl, found her head buried in the dog's mouth Saturday night, sheriff's Deputy Cruz Solis said. The girl died of head trauma at an area hospital, he said.

Pomeranians are a breed of miniature canines that have a foxlike face, pointy ears and long, fluffy hair. The deputy said Pomeranian attacks are rare.

``Obviously it doesn't take much to kill a 6-week old baby but it's not something that happens with that breed,'' Solis said.

Yes, it DID happen mr sheriff.

12. they're being dogs
It's the owners that are fucking up.

I've long believed it should be illegal to own a dog without having gone through REAL training classes... not for the dog - for the owners. I've never understood why anyone would get a dog and never bother to learn how they work when they would never think to do that when getting a car or a vacuum cleaner or stereo or anything else. And the time to learn that stuff is BEFORE getting the dog, so you have the necessary knowledge from the moment they come to live with you... most people get the dog first and then think "now what?" I can't even count how many people I've come across who got the dog even before they got the food, the eating/drinking bowls, found a reputable vet, etc... or even figured out as far as how to transport the new family addition to their home (no, you can't get a puppy or even an adult dog and just stick it in the car left to it's own devices while you drive it home - it's not a sack of groceries).

23. Ever heard the acronym RTFM ?
It exists because so few people ever actually do RTFM.

33. I'm guessing it means "Research The Fucking Material"
I'm I right? Or close to it?

And you're right, so few people do. But when it comes to dogs and even other varieties of pets they don't have any interest at all in finding out how they work where they would do more of that if it was a tv or some kind of appliance or anything else they used or brought into their home. What's particularly baffling is those that got a dog, screwed it up and live with outrageous bad behavior that ruins their homes or even their lives yet STILL never thought to themselves, "Gee, maybe I should find out what the problem is here and fix it so the dog isn't pissing all over the house, destroying everything I own, mauling the kids, will bite me if I try to sleep in my own bed..." Unbelievable how many people live with Devil Pets yet it never occurs to them to fix what's wrong and just put up with it... and better yet not let it get to anywhere near that point to begin with.

This is what I don't get. They would find out how their tv (or whatever) worked and what not to do to it that would screw it up, yet never think to do that with their dog. I know quite a few people who's dogs bite THEM and some of them rather regularly. WTF??? An owner putting up with their OWN DOG biting them??? Madness.

but there are just as many dogs and cats who will defend infants from harm. Each is an individual.

5. Call me suspicious but
... how does a babies head fit into a Pom's Mouth? They're a toy breed and do not exactly have the biggest gape in the canine world. I hope that this terribly sad death is fully investigated.

7. Yep. Poms are very small dogs.
A baby's head isn't huge, but it's too big to be 'buried' in the mouth of a Pom.

11. If this is a new instance, it isn't the first Pomeranian to kill a baby...
and the statement that Pomeranian attacks are rare is crap. It is just that they typically don't do much damage because of their size. Owners of tiny dogs often allow aggressive behaviors because they think it is cute (or don't know enough about their dogs to realize that they are being aggressive). Not all owners are like that, but I've certainly seen my share.

32. I would trust a Pit Bull before I would trust a Pom or most any other
small breed. Most small breeds have jealous streaks a mile wide and are mean.

Of course I would rather get bitten by a Pom than a Pit Bull.

Have known two Pit Bulls, both very loving and friendly dogs.

Never met a small breed dog I can say I cared for.

19. Agreed, something's wrong with that article
Maybe a small mouse could fit in a Pom's mouth, but there's no way a baby's head could fit.

20. first thing I thought of
A Pom's mouth isn't all that much bigger than a cat's... a baby's head can't fit in their mouth. However, I do believe absolutely that the dog killed the baby. Other Pom's have killed babies before. Birds and rats can kill babies, of course a Pom could as well. Human babies are utterly defenseless.

No dog regardless of size or temperament should ever, ever, ever be left alone with a baby. EVER.

28.  A baby's cranium at 6 weeks is in sections and not together as a component.
The baby's head is extremely malleable, like clay. Its shape responds to squeezing. Nuff said.

10. Did you hear about the pet weasel who chewed off a newborn baby's hands?
True. The parents heard the baby screaming in the middle of the night, but they didn't feel like getting up to check the baby until the weasel chewed off 8 of the baby's fingers. I remember the news story from about 6 months ago.

of the family and the results of any investigation

Otherwise, it's just a vague story that's a decade old

16. Dogs and kids should NEVER be left unattended.
My dogs are very well trained, probably in the top .01% and I trust them, but never alone with small children. There is no such thing as a bombproof horse or a dog that will not bite.

21. Srry, but I had a Pom hen I was young, and my grandaughter has one
now, and their mouth is notbig enough to do that! They have teeth like any other dog and bites, gnawing etc. I could understand, but it's flat out impossible for any baby's head to fit into the mouth of a Pom. I don't know the likn site or how reliable it might be, but this story is junk.

30. ironically, some dogs were used to babysit kids
Pit Bulls were once called nanny Dogs.

While this attack is horrible it seems jumping the gun to imply that this is the norm.

IF this one dog means all pomeranians are threats to children then Casey Anthony shows all Mothers are threats to children.
