And wasn't it a wonderful affirmation of humanity when that wall tumbled down, thanks to People Power? Maybe we can do that again, in our own country, and stand up to Fox and the Kochs.

But for now, watch this great president in a great speech. We were all Berliners then, and again in 1989, when the wall fell.

3. Not sure about that croissant thing, and it was a long time ago, but it was damned important.
It's a lesson for us today, because we have seen a Berlin Wall arise in this nation - Fox, Limbaugh, Kochs, and especially the Supreme Court have taken away our nation.

5. lighten up.
Legend has it that while he thought he was saying I am a person of Berlin, instead he may have been calling himself a donut. Anyway the donut interpretation is probably wrong. Funny, but wrong.

6. You're weird.
I like that.

But, I think we are drifting away from the essential point about the Berlin Wall.

9. He indeed declared himself a jelly doughnut...but his intention was well understood.
I burst out laughing when he said it...and then had to explain it to those I was with.

Modern Walls

Barriers Continue to Divide Around the World

By Andreas Lorenz, Katharina Peters, Marc Pitzke, Ulrike Putz and Carsten Volkery

The Berlin Wall, built 50 years ago this month, may be gone, but modern barriers can still be found around the world. Some are designed to keep people in, others are designed to keep people out while some are simply in place to keep people apart. SPIEGEL ONLINE correspondents profile modern-day walls on five continents.
