Anyone watch that new series Combat Hospital. It's kinda a take off on MASH, but it's set
in Kandahar. I have no idea how realistic it is to on the ground, but is certainly not a fairy tail. People die from the bombs; innocent civilians, moms and kids. I'm just wondering if it may actually provide a way out of these crazy wars? Surprisingly, it on ABC on Thursday nights.

1. And it is Canadian-centric. The unit is international, but primarily Canadian.
There seem to be more of these shows lately, centered on Canada, like 'Flashpoint' and 'Rookie Blue'. I think they are all pretty good shows.

2. I've noticed that. And they are pretty good.
Afghanistan is a NATO adventure.. So, there would be different countries represented in a hospital base normally I would imagine. Seems crazy that Drs are walking around with weapons strapped to their legs, but that's the reality I suppose in war. The psych cases are very interesting. Especially, the PTSD cases. When people are actually sent to see the Dr, they are clearly past was one would consider field cpable, yet time and again the commander's of the team are asking for the Dr to patch them up, give them drugs, and send them back to their unit. Sadly, we know when they do come home, this country doesn't deal with their needs. There is a reason we have more deaths from suicide, than from combat related injuries.

Seriously, multiple tours. Who ever thought this was a good idea?

3. I like that they deal with the facts of modern combat. In the first episode,
they explained the doctors wearing sidearms in the OR. Also, they deal with the effects of extended combat operations, which is relative new, for the most part. The average soldier today spends much more actual time in combat than in previous wars, because of speed of transport, among other things.

5. Yes, but we are supposed to be in the Golden age of President Obama.
Why are we still there? It doesn't make any sense anymore. We are unwanted. AND its just way too costly.

8. We carpet bombed the North in Dec, 1972.
The peace treaty was signed the next month. Is that what you want done?

9. What exactly do you think our unmanned drones are doing now?

11. Drones are intended to be selective in what they fire missles at.
If you think that is the same as indiscriminate carpet bombing you have no clue.

12. No, I was thinking of talking to the other side about ending the wars.
Without the talk the bombing will just go on anyhow.

13. Talking is useless. It is seen as a sign of weakness.
We simply have to pull out or stay there forever. There is nothing in between.

15. I did not think it was a useful thing to talk - however, in getting out of
Vietnam and saving face it worked as a good cover. I think they called it declare victory and leave.

6. I noted the DOD credit at the end
Watch the credits. It's an interesting show, but I wonder why it's on the air right now...

10. I'm not sure either. They've approached some sensitive subjects like
DADT, civilian bombing, even the English guy has a "farm", I'm assuming opiate farm (and for being a dry base; he sure drinks a lot).

14. I've been watching it. It is a Canadian series.
I don't know how realistic it is, not having been there, but it is a good show.
