The California Democrat appointed Reps. James E. Clyburn of South Carolina and Xavier Becerra of California, who are both members of the party’s House leadership teams. She also named Maryland’s Chris Van Hollen, top Democrat on the Budget Committee.

24. They're seasoned negotiators with great credibility

They all know who they're dealing with as well as the ins and outs of congress and will carry their weight in hammering out a deal that won't be a John Boehner dream come true.

If she'd picked a DU darling from the left (I can't think of one right now), that Representative would have been immediately marginalized by the usual suspects and forced to take up the position of placeholder. As it is, these candidates will likely take Pelosi's ideals with them to the bargaining table and maintain an active role in defending our interests.

People can forget the notion that this panel will be a win/win proposition for either side. At least I feel we have a voice in the room, and that's an improvement over recent events.
