As Brownback prays, opponents rally
As Gov. Sam Brownback made good on plans to speak at a large stadium prayer event Saturday in Houston, opponents of his policies held a rally of their own on the south steps of the Statehouse in Topeka.

The event, which ran from noon to 1 p.m., was sponsored by the Kansas National Organization for Women and the Kansas Equality Coalition, the state's largest gay rights group.

Speakers criticized Brownback for what they said were administration policies that opposed abortion and gay rights, as well as the governor's participation in the Houston prayer rally.

Participants unfurled two gigantic flags on the south steps of the Statehouse — one a rainbow flag supporting gay rights, the other an American flag that organizers purchased expressly for the rally.

1. That was such a crappy article
I could not believe that is what they took away from this afternoons rally.

Still, we won this one even if the press would rather cover Brownback and make light of what was happening.

3. I was up directly behind the speakers
carrying the Kansas flag, ON A POLE, like that has to be such a big deal for groups Brownback does not like. We walked right past the troopers across the street. We had our instructions if they arrested us but we figured Sam was not that stupid after the stink about the last rallies. Those troopers were on me the minute I started to unload the flags from the car.

I thought it was a great rally. Wish we had met up, we had a big birthday bash at Pepe and Chela's after.

The reporter spent quite a bit of time talking with the 3 of us with the flags after the rally. The tiny quotes he did for me and for Larry were pretty lame considering. Good Lord, we sounded silly after all that. Oh well, the point was made. We carried our dangerous weapons and made our point that we are all citizens with the right to bring flags to our rallies on the steps of our Capitol building.

LJWorld had a better article. I have not seen the others yet. We got so much press, even the Wall Street Journal had an article, after the last flag fiasco that I think they wanted it all to settle down. There is so much we can use to get the press so on we go to the next thing.

5. Not sure.
It will depend on a lot of things that will happen this week. It has been the busiest summer I can remember and it is not about to stop. I am pretty much stopping with KEC and KsNOW and I don't do anything for NOW really but I adore KariAnn and would drop everything if she needed something. I will go for KsNOW and work KEC and that is about all the time I have these days. Wish it was not so, there are so many bad things that need to be addressed. You go get em if you are there. If I make it I will look for you. Thanks for the heads up, been doing the KEC thing and not aware of much else lately.
