Else they will make THEMSELVES out to be liars (yes, yes, I KNOW!).

IOW: Like Palin's FB page, their rhetoric must perforce be "scrubbed."

2. Actually, no ... for 2 reasons.
1) If they alter their language, they will be admitting the role of their prior rhetoric. So they will not alter their language.

2) This outcome is not a surprise to them. In some respects it is an anticipated, even desired outcome. Today's political assassinations are not performed by a group of conspirators who can get caught, and then turn over their leaders. No, no ... today's political assassinations are done by make the insane, scared and angry, at your political opponents, who you paint as evil people hell bent on destroying the country.

4. And reason #3: these people NEVER alter their behavior. That is the first rule of
how they operate. Never never never show doubt. When things get tight, escalate the rhetoric. They are not going to change, except to get more extreme.

7. I'm afraid you are probably right
The 24-hour cable news and talk radio business is all about ratings. Because ratings means $$$.

Ramping up the rhetoric is a way of keeping the audience hooked in and wanting more.

In the same way that many of us on DU are addicted to Ed Schultz and Keith Olbermann.

But at least MSNBC is not giving a plaform for hate speech directed against elected officials.

8. I'm afraid they are going to double down
Olbermann called for everybody to cool it. They decided to ramp up the disinformation and double down on the Evil Leftist rhetoric.

9. I don't think it's going to change anything until we
get laws that force them to change. I would say a law requiring their stations must carry an opposing view to be fair and balanced. For instance, let Rush Limbaugh be followed by Randi Rhodes on the same station. Let Thom Hartmann be followed by Bill O'Reilly. Let Glenn Beck be followed by Mike Malloy. See this way our lefties will have access to the high power Clear Channel stations. Then they can't do selective programming of all right wing trash.

19. there's a simply way people can help to stop the right wing haters
cancel your cable. and tell your cable provider it's because of Fox News.

I realize this will cause HUGE amounts of suffering - I mean, I'm talking about giving up television delivered via your cable line.

However, if people REALLY MEAN that they want to do something to stop this - do something that sends a message to Murdoch and Comcast and all the rest - you have the power.

Are people really willing to do something that causes them the least bit of inconvenience, or is it all just talk? If it's all just talk - then they'll continue the talk, too.
