The Tea Party owns the economy now.
Boehner got "98% of what he wanted". The Bush tax cuts continue. There is no new tax revenue being generated.

Let's see how this plays out over the next 12 months. Errr, I mean election.

I'm not so sure the public is going to enjoy the ride...

1. Yes, Mr. Tan Man, where is your jobs bill?
That question should be on signs, airplanes, etc. wherever he goes and whatever he does during the recess.

2. Cause and effect?
The public is going to have a hard time with that one. Most likely, they will just vote for "somebody else".

3. But everything will that job-killing socialist Obama's fault...
...thanks to his communist economic advisors, and Nancy Pelosi, just because her name belongs in there somewhere.

4. Actually, Pres. Obama and his party will continue to be the owners of the primary blame or credit
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 08:20 AM by kenny blankenship
for what happens to the economy in the next year. He's the President and calls the Democratic Party home. That's the way it has always worked. If it goes worse, he will get the larger share of the blame.

Which is why it's a BAD idea to lend someone else what belongs to you, when they have no interest in taking care of it, and may even profit greatly by breaking it.

But when you suffer from an idee fixe that compromise is a virtue, and try to find common ground with people who bear you nothing but hatred, you will probably make one regrettable decision after another after another.

7. Well that should make George W. Bush happy
Joking aside, I find it hard to believe a 60 member caucus in Congress will catch the brunt of disatisfaction with economic conditions electorally.

Like it or not, the buck (financed at 2.83% interest) stops at the White House and President Obama will have to make a case for a second term if after 3 years conditions have not changed significantly.

9. I think the OP misses the point. The Tea Party is furious that they didn't get nearly enough.
The Tea Party is very aggrieved by the deal.

Boehner's 98% is only 50% for the Tea Party.

12. And the Tea Party is owned by the Koch Brothers.
In addition to their congressional and executive holdings, they also own Scalia, Alito, Thomas, Roberts and that crew.

14. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way...
Incumbents get the credit or the blame for economies. If ours continues to suck, Obama will be blamed. If things start improving, Obama will get the credit.

Are Republicans responsible for damaging the economy? Absolutely. Will the public still blame Obama if the economy remains crappy? Absolutely.

Presidential re-election campaigns, and to some extent midterms, are referendums on the sitting President. President Obama's campaign team, along with our House and Senate candidates, will try to frame 2012 as a choice, but the voters will treat it as a referendum. Always have, always will.

15. If The Tea Party Owns This Second Dip, Shouldn't We Call It The Tea-cession?
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 10:52 AM by Vogon_Glory
If the Tea Party now owns the consequences of this debt deal, shouldn't we start calling this part of the double-dip recession the Tea-cession? I mean the Teab@ggers SAY they're all for prosperity, the Teab@ggers SAY that they'll end the recession and start another boom, the Teab@ggers SAY that THEIR policies, NOT those of the socialist-pinko :sarcasm: Obama are going to bring about more employment, and if the economic recovery tanks like it's likely to, shouldn't we progressives make them own it? Or should we stay in our seats like nice, well-behaved little boys and girls and politely applaud this latest example of of "bipartisanship" from the Executive Branch? :sarcasm:

:patriot:
