and poor being thrown under the bus: alas, all was not lost for the uber-wealthy and large corporations will still wallow in governmental largess by continuing to slop/suck at the public welfare teat. :patriot:

minimum wage job to support my pension. Apparently at my age two isn't enough. I suppose I could pencil in sleeping on the weekends or on the drive between work sites. :) Watch out for a copper colored Honda element that is driving itself. :)

Repeat after me: I love my president. I love my president.

He made a critical error with the corporate healthcare plan that was passed.
Straight out of the gate he should have focused on WPA, CCC, etc style works programs to get the economy rolling and then tackle health insurance reform WITHOUT backing down from a public option.

True story.

The attempted spin I believe is that "we don't have the votes so why bother?" or some such dig your own grave and lie in it type thinker drivel.

Apparently vision and direction come after the votes magically appear. With these folks slavery would still have been legal till the wealthy discovered it is easier and cheaper to pay shit wages and let the help figure out how to find food and shelter on their own and maybe get some of the pennies right back.

I don't even get the mentality, it operates without aspiration or even a desire to express any sort of vision.

He bailed Wall Street. That was a Really Big Help to the people losing jobs, getting house foreclosures, etc. NOT! And I don't care who he appointed to the Supreme Court, the abortion stuff, etc., in this particular discussion. I think you're not too clear on the reality issue as it relates to the topic at hand, which is JOBS.

For the record, it is the worst jobs recovery after a recession since the Great Depression.

You really don't want to introduce this issue.

Trust me.

221. Just so we are all on the same page -
this graphs is not used by any sane left leaning Obama supporter because it has about as much validity as Lord if the Rings does at explaining the origins of the UNIVERSE,

in other words - putting this up does nothing more than waves a great big red flag that says - I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT !!!

The current unemployment rate sits at almost 10%, this has not changed once in Obama's presidency.

19. Here's how it's going to go:
Obama: I want a jobs bill to help the unemployed

Republicans in Congress: No. We can't spend money on that. The deficit is too high. We need to cut spending.

Obama: OK. Sorry I asked.

Is it going to be a fight against all hiring? Maybe he will fight to stop them from stopping the companies from moving overseas, maybe he will fight to allow more layoffs, every time he has "fought" we have lost something and he has claimed it was the best he could do. "I surrender"will/should be his campaign slogan.

But seriously, folks - why does Obama need to do any jobs fightin'? Now that the job creators see that government is now trying to be like a family making those tough decisions of shared sacrifice to live within its means, surely the job creators will start creatin' those jobs! Isn't that the idea?

who once got freaked out by a couple of frogs that had gotten into the apartment from the pond next door.

While the cats were cowering in the corner, my wife and her then-husband chased out the frogs.

The cats then spent the rest of the afternoon pouncing on imaginary frogs, showing how they were going to handle it next time.

Somehow, this just came to mind.

Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 07:26 AM by SHRED
When this President ran for office, with his populist rhetoric, he had all of our hopes running high.

Like Glenn Greenwald I do not buy the narrative that he was "held hostage":

The myth of Obama's "blunders" and "weakness"

~snip

It strains the imagination to think that the country's smartest businessmen keep paying top dollar for such lousy performance. Is it possible that by "surrendering" at the 11th hour and signing off on a deal that presages deep cuts in spending for the middle class, but avoids tax increases for the rich, Obama is doing exactly what was expected of him?

A mere three years ago, huge numbers of people invested substantial time, attention, energy, emotion and "hope" in fighting to put Barack Obama in the White House. The very human incentives not to reach this conclusion are both obvious and overwhelming.

Turns out, based on results, that Obama talks populist but in reality kowtows to the wealthy elite. That is our system but the problem is he pretended to be for the people...and sadly many of us believed him.
We are the ones being "bashed".

121. Bashing is all we have left. He hasn't fought for anything.
It's been 2 years. He hasn't fought for anything. He's passively sat back and waited for Congress to do the work.

He buys into the failed strategy that you do only what you have the votes for, instead of whipping votes for what you want to do. As a result, there's no reason to expect him to ever accomplish any policy he claims is important - because despite all the failures he keeps using the same strategy.

Plus, the Republicans know their only chance in 2012 is to have a terrible economy. That's what this entire debt ceiling mess was about - crippling the economy so they can win.

Healthcare was a sellout to Insurance companies(Romneycare)

I'll wait and see about the Supreme court

At best, you gave 2 things he fought for Republican Ideals, and maybe 1 where things might be for the little guy.

I think you just proved the point of the person you were arguing against.

197. Where's the fighting from Obama?
Stimulus Bill: Rolled over when Republicans rewrote the bill to do half tax cuts. Proceeded to claim the bill was perfect stimulus despite it being 1/6th the size actually needed. Did not attempt to get any further stimulus despite unemployment being 1% higher than the WH's "disaster scenario" used to sell the stimulus bill.

Healthcare Reform: The White House explicitly chose a "hands off" approach, because Rham believed the Clinton White House was wrong to get so involved in healthcare reform. Gave up when Senator Brown was elected. Nancy Pelosi was the one who actually fought for the bill and dragged it across the finish line.

SC Appointments: Chose candidates where no fighting was required.

"I could post an entire list"

Nah, you couldn't. Because the White House's strategy is to let Congress do whatever it's gonna do.

253. As I already said, Congress fought for those. Not Obama.
Stimulus: Congress rewrote the plan to cut the effective stimulus in half, Obama called it "perfect". That's not fighting.

HealthCare: Rham believed the Clinton White House screwed up by being "in charge" of healthcare reform. So the Obama White House explicitly took a "hands off" approach to crafting the bill. When Senator Brown was elected, the White House gave up on healthcare reform. Nancy Pelosi fought for the bill and dragged it across the finish line.

His supreme court nominees are centrists and no fighting was required.

I would vote for him over Obama in a primary.

Wisconsin has become a rallying cry for liberals in the U.S. - the things people are doing there are inspirational, in the face of this teabaggery shite.

He would be the first Jewish president.

If Obama had any smarts, he would choose Feingold to be his v.p. to have someone on hand to handle the shit sandwich we're all going to be eating after all this "bipartisanship" on the part of the corporate democrats - that point at which these same corporations are going to witness a backlash that they cannot even imagine at this time - when Americans will vote to get rid of right wingers in both parties.

The backlash is coming.

So, all he has to do is . . .

* fight centuries of human greed,

* tame capitalism's insatiable need for unrestrained and ever-continual profit,

* convince the wealthy that run this country, fund and dictate the President, the government and it's electoral process to get on board with being nicer to the working, middle and poor classes,

* make logical sense out of the perpetuation of a linear economic system that demands infinite amounts of capital and resources where neither exist,

* try to reconcile the fact that, while he does not believe giving every need and want to the rich works in the short or long term, is still fully on board with this system out of political expediency (that and being deathly afraid of being called the "L" or "S" word) more than anything,

* create a new WPA in the face of massive opposition and out of a blow hole of wasted unpaid-for IOUs the previous uneducated dry drunk bastard left him,

* bring an end to the rich-profitable MIC turkey shoots without threats to his life from . . . "lone gunmen" . . . *cough cough*

* do ALL of this without any personal sacrifice from anyone (especially the wealthy), without any change in lifestyle (especially the wealthy's), no new taxes and not asking the princessy precious rich people to even give one smidgen of a fair share.

Yeah. THAT'S going to happen.

The problem is systemic. Even if someone on the correct side of the left ever got elected, they'd be shot in a week. Bush's job was to push the agenda of the 1%, and he did it incredibly well. Everyone pretended he was stupid and didn't mean to torture, rape, kill and steal from everyone.

Presidency is a PR position.

And he said he would only support health care reform that included a public option, and that's what he did, right?

And he said he supported workers, and he was first on protest lines in Wisconsin, you remember?

And he adamently refused to support an extension of the Bush tax cuts, and he took care of that, right?

And he insisted he would sign no budget deal that didn't include revenue raisers, and of course that's what happened I'm sure you'll recall.

Yup, I have complete faith...

208. Well, if the Teabaggers aren't passing any of his Jobs Bills, he has to FIGHT to get things done

in Teabagger town. They don't even want to spend the $$ for big infrastructure repair jobs.

THEY DON'T WANT HIM TO SUCCEED.

209. Fight for jobs, who's going to fight for jobs? I know lots of people who fight for tax cuts for
the rich and tax subsidies for the corporations, but who is this person who is going to fight for jobs? Will it be a fight to create real jobs or a fight for imagined jobs? Will the jobs actually be here in the states? And this "he" who is going to "fight for jobs," has he been around for awhile, do we know this person, or is this someone new to the fight for jobs. And will these be good jobs with benefits, or will these be jobs we should just keep our mouths shut about and just be thankful to get even though the wages are low and there are no benefits? And when will this fight begin, will it be televised and will the corporate media report on this "fighting for jobs" story? And since talk is cheap, when it just goes on the way its always been going on, where almost anything else that they can come up with takes precedence over the economy and fighting for jobs (which will be the usual rock in the bushes Republican created crisis) that will divert attention from "fighting for jobs" to anything other than fixing the economy and as usual fight the newly created issue or crisis, instead of "fighting for jobs, will the fighting for jobs have to be placed on the back burner again and wait until the fake crisis is resolved or can they do two things at once, "fight for jobs," and attend to rigged crisis?"

"Now we're gonna fight for jobs," are just empty words that people say for a good little sound bite, why is it that no one seems to back up those words with any real action or genuine "fight for those jobs" and for an economy that will make people feel hopeful, safe, and secure again about working and can hold their heads up high with their bills paid and some money in their pockets instead of empty words swirling around in their heads?
Lou

238. Sounds like they have convinced him that JOBS should
have been his #1 priority since he's been in office.

Jobs since he looks forward and not backwards. No justice. No peace.

241. I think y'all misheard him. He likely said he'll have "fighting jobs" -
as in his only job plan, the US Military. It's that or Walcrap Greeter.

Every time the president talks about fighting for something I feel like we are all end up getting fucked.

I find these sort of displays are much more comedic when I isolate myself from the issues.

246. The only way he or anyone is going to create enough jobs is to tax the fuck ...
out of sociopath corporations & rich assholes ...and then give them tax breaks when they create jobs only in the US. Tax the fuck out of them if they out source jobs.
