Draft Matt Damon!
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 07:30 PM by hootinholler
I just saw the video linked in cal04's thread.

I'm thinking he would be a great spokesman for the rest of us and move the President left in the primary.

Seriously. Let's Draft Matt.

1. Great idea because we need people like him to get at least some media attention.
Why would this be Unrecommended?

7. I'll tell you why...
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 10:21 PM by checks-n-balances
this would be unrecc'd. Happens all the time, since there is a faction on DU that has drunk the koolaid in favor of "Education Reform"
-Begin a long campaign that essentially blames teachers for all ills in the classroom
-Evaluate teachers based on their students' test scores
-Shut down schools where test scores are too low and fire teachers if their salaries are too high (i.e., they've been teaching too long) and hire new ones
-Allow "failed schools" to be taken over and run by corporations
-Give away tax dollars collected for public schools to private ones (including "charter schools")
-Run schools for profit

That's the plan, although not sold to the public and to politicians stating those terms.
Lots of Dems have been "sold" on this idea, all the way up to the top.

Sorry if you already knew this and I'm being redundant. There are lots of DUers who should be ashamed of themselves for believing this corporate BS.

Thanks for asking.

2. Unfortunately, he's far too intelligent to want the job.
which is the problem with a lot of people I wish would run for office.

6. He's short
Or at least, not tall. So he wouldn't have a chance.

Of course it's absurd, but that's the way it works.

13. That was before ubiquitous TV and video
Now a candidate has to be tall, but not too tall, and good looking, but too good looking.

Voice is important, too, at least for men. Lincoln wouldn't have had a chance in modern times, based on looks and voice alone.

16. How bad-ass is Howard Zinn?
That growing up in proximity to him makes one a progressive activist?

Matt Damon has also narrated a documentary about Howard Zinn's life, and voiced an audio-book version of "A People's History of the United States"

I don't have many heros, but Howard Zinn is one of them.
