US Democrats face backlash over debt deal

Some Democrats say too much ground has been conceded to Republicans in deal to prevent US defaulting on debts

Democratic leaders in Congress faced a backlash from party members on Monday over a deal done with the Republicans to prevent the US defaulting on its debts and to cut trillions in spending.

In spite of Democratic unhappiness, leaders from both parties expected Congress to pass the contentious legislation before Tuesday's default deadline.

Democrats at party meetings behind closed doors in the Senate and the House expressed concern that too much ground had been conceded to the Republicans and that the poorest in society would be the main victims.

The deal was worked out over the weekend by Barack Obama and congressional leaders.

6. As annoyed as I am with Democrats. . ..
And face it, I'm pretty fucking pissed with them. . . .

B-U-T. . . Let's not forget that it's the goddamned repigs who got us in this situation, so let's not forget where to aim our anger.

Yes, the Dems (especially our Prez) need to take lessons on how to avoid being pussies, but let's call a spade a spade and call out what the Repigs are doing to us. . .

I will happily expound on how and why the republicans suck ass. Yes so much of our issues can be traced back to their descent into moon battery and general douche baggery.

But there's a problem.

Both they and I know they lost my vote long ago. They knew it the moment they started attacking me and trying to get votes from others by demonizing people like me (gays, minorities, liberals, ect)

So they have no reason to care. Indeed, they view my anger and pain as victories.

I am already going to work against the Republicans as they already work against me and we both know this.

BUT the Democrats are a little different. They still care about my vote. They still need my vote. While some may not really care about my welfare, they at least, as a group have to pretend to care.

While the Republicans already know I wont' vote for them, too many Democrats assume that means I have no where else to go. Indeed, I think that many elected Dems view their base as ungrateful wretches and this is why. They see us as always demanding crazy stuff (like defending our core principles) but it's not as if we will go somewhere else. (the Nader myth is still pretty strong meme even around here).

In other words, we are like whiny back seat drivers to them.

And until we do something that finally pounds into their heads that the problem isn't their base, it's them, the Democratic leadership has no reason to think any differently then they do right now.
