Where the Hell is Superman when you need him?
Edited on Sat Jul-30-11 12:17 PM by PCIntern
All these years, we have feasted upon fictional characters in film, in comic books, and in literature who enter stage right to save the day at the last second, as the clock ticks down, as the rope threads break, as the boat goes over the falls, as the plane plummets from the sky. So America sits around awaiting its superhero to solve our dilemmas and guess what: he ain't coming. Not only is there no Santa Claus (or Sanity Clause), but there's no Bruce Willis, there's no James Bond, there's no Steven Seagal, there's no Matt Damon, there's no Spiderman or Green Lantern or The Flash (from either dimension), there's no Justice League of America, and there's sure as Hell no Captain America.

Nope, as the great line uttered by Rick Moranis in the film Spaceballs stated: "Evil will always win out over good, because Good is dumb."

1. Use your hole brane !
What do we know about Superman? He wears a cape, leotards and boots. Before he can transform into his superhero status, he must change in a phone booth. All the phone booths are gone! You want Superman? Build more phone booths!

2. Talked to my mom yesterday...
I wanted to gauge how closely she was following the debt ceiling stuff, so I asked her "So what are you gonna do when you don't get your social security check next week?" I asked that knowing that she will be fine, as she has other income, and some investment money. She did say, however, that some of her friends may not be able to eat. She will, no doubt, help them out.

Anyway, we then discussed the Teabaggers, and I said that it's my belief that they are largely people of my generation who were raised on a steady diet of comic books, action films and old-testament "christianity." Their brains are scrambled and they really are unable to see reality. They believe that they are "history's actors" and that they will crash the system and then reshape society to their perfect specifications.

They think that THEY ARE SUPERMAN coming to the rescue of all those oppressed by the big, bad government. They are so deluded that everything they do causes more harm, but they believe that their actions are beneficial.

Mom got it, and I know that she's glad that she didn't raise douche-bags, like many people of her generation did. I may not be one of "history's actors," but I'm certainly one of "history's observers." And I don't like what I see from much of my generation. Too many addled brains...

3. You made me think of this post by Cannikin
about the little boy with cancer, whose "Make a Wish" was to play Superman and save the bank.

The irony here is that now we need Superman to save us FROM the banks and their paid-for cronies in Congress.

5. Meet "Captain Amerika"

Doesn't everybody know he's really Steve Rogers, Ph.D?

though he lurks under several real web-published names at the AFRL, so unless you go on a QUEST for Steve Rogers in that place, you won't know that your government digs comicbook characters to solve their wicked problems, those being what to think before the bad guys think it via programmed software. The wizard is indeed behind the curtain, and he's speaking in binary. But you'll have to see it to believe it, and it might be worthy of the effort to read this comic book.

Now, I know this is a bit of cryptic chatter, but the read-only status leaves one at a loss to fully share the fun(?) without too much of a reveal, but it sure is telling of how our fellow citizens in academia/defense spend their days and our funds.

That being the restoration of integrity to the institution of journalism.

In short if the American People; have good information beyond reproach, then we and our chosen political leaders can and will make sound, wise decisions.

Thanks for the thread, PCIntern
