Suppose Boehner Knows He Doesn't Really Have the Votes

Maybe Speaker Boehner knows he can't get that many Republicans to vote for default, and his storming out and conference calling is just for show. I wonder if it's possible that Obama also knows that - but plays along to keep the Republicans from rabbiting. One way to get the Republicans' courage up would be to scoff at them, to challenge their resolve. So the President is doing just the opposite. He humors them!

Challenge them directly, and they just might bolt.

If he fails to get the default to happen, he is done both at home and as speaker.
