2. The first amendment prohibits laws making speech and press
a crime.

But it does not prohibit a law that declares that such images reckless without a criminal remedy.

7. I see the debate of the bill as useful in itself...
It'll become part of "the public discussion" we hear mentioned often these days.

The constitutionality should prevail. Meantime, it could prompt people to cut out leading with overtly violent messaging.

5. I would hope he would include making them retract and stop the use of language
of political coercion.

8. Such laws...
...have historically been used predominately to punish the left, not the right.

Who were the defendants in every big political free-speech case leading to Brandenburg v. Ohio? Schenck? Gitlow, Masses, Davis, the Johnson of Texas v. Johnson?

Who was penned up in those 'First Amendment Zones' at political conventions?

Sure, it seems like a good idea today...

10. Canada has a hate speech law. Couldn't that work for us?

6. Those Wanted posters in North Carolina targeting abortion doctors...
were deemed reckless endangerment...Sarah Palin's poster isn't too far off.

If anything, she should be tried for criminally negligent homicide.
