Cenk is explaining the problems/what happened at MSNBC - LIVE NOW - link below

Update:

I missed the first few minutes, but here's a partial summary ...

A while back MSNBC told Cenk to 'tone it down', to have more republicans on during his hour show, etc.

Cenk sorta did what they asked him to do, and his ratings were good in the young demographic (he beat CNN and FoxNews a few times).
And basically that wasn't good enough for the 'big wigs' at MSNBC.

So, MSNBC offered Cenk DOUBLE THE MONEY if he would give up the hour show and take a smaller contributor role.

Cenk said NO.

p.s. Should be a video up somewhere soon.

6. he laid out a lot of numbers
his ratings were good in a lot of ways, and so Cenk concludes that they got rid of him for a different reason. He says it was because he didn't tone his show down, to please people in Washington, as Cenk put it.

8. this is awesome
i believe it's exactly as Cenk says it was. I'm so glad he decided not to go along with them. What would be the point of having Cenk on TV if he's not Cenk?

11. Yeah, I think Cenk is going to come out very big on this in the long run.
He's a force for truth-telling and he doesn't want to give that up.

12. Thanks, I kind of figured Cenk was just too
truthful for some to be able to tolerate. Cenk called it as he saw it and he ruffled too many feathers, same thing with KO.

14. I hardly paid any attention to him...
but I might start now. I'm glad that he's not backing down. I caught then end of it, he talked about how people in power do control the media in soft ways, kind of leaning on them. He couldn't be honest with people.

Very interesting.

I'm amazed that so many here dislike Cenk. It's all over other threads. And yet
here he is turning down double the money over principle. Now that shows character and class.

9. He was challenging authority a bit too much...they offered him a buttload of cash to...
...take a new time slot and tone it down.

They offered him more money for a smaller role, as long as he wasn't as challenging. Double the amount of money he was receiving. He's not slamming MSNBC or any of the other hosts at MSNBC, just felt he couldn't keep up the truth-telling and so turned down the cash because he felt his show would get watered down.

19. This underscores my long held contention that MSNBC is worse than FOX because it
masks its right wing sympathy in left wing rhetoric. But when it comes down to it, they censor their hosts.

appreciate Rev Sharpton, I personally don't think he has what it takes to be a good host.

35. Cenk bitched too much about Obama and constantly referred to the Dems as "spineless"
Edited on Wed Jul-20-11 11:01 PM by Major Hogwash
Cenk didn't instill much enthusiasm in me and he didn't give me any hope that things would get much better.
In other words, he was just there, like a substitute teacher.
Perhaps if he would have been more upbeat, maybe I would have watched him more, but from what I saw, it was mostly just a bashfest on the entire Democratic party.

It's too bad Cenk's ego prevented him from taking a weekend programming slot -- because ONE IS DESPERATELY NEEDED AT MSNBC.

Sometimes people have to act like a leader, and be the first one to do stuff.
If MSNBC wanted to put Cenk on the weekend, he would have had the undivided attention of every liberal on the freakin' planet because we don't watch CNN, we don't watch Fox, and we don't watch reruns of "Catch a Predator".

In other words, there is no reason to turn the tv to MSNBC during the weekends because they suck!!!!
10 years as a cable channel and their weekend programming sucks!!!

Cenk blew it if he just quit like that.
I never saw him before and since they offered him more money, it's obviously about his over-proportioned out-sized ego.

I knew Keith had a big head, but that's because he worked for 2 or 3 years without a freakin' contract!!!
See if one of these brash, new 'Young Turks' is willing to do that in this economic climate!!

37. WTF??!!
I really hope you are joking!!! MSNBC tells him to shut up because politicians in Washington don't like his criticism and that he has to be more of an insider and THIS is your reaction?! That he should sell out and that it's about his ego because he's principled? What?!

:wtf:
