In all fairness (re: the Gang of 6 proposal)
Edited on Wed Jul-20-11 03:31 PM by MannyGoldstein
They've pretty much adopted the Simpson-Bowles recommendation. It seems to me that once Bush and the Republicans appointed the Simpson-Bowles Commission, it was pretty inevitable that things would end up this way, with deep cuts to Social Security, millions of seniors thrown into poverty, and the lowest top tax rate since 1915.

We cannot blame elected Democrats for this: they've only had a few years to clean up this mess, and they're doing a great job.

Wait... it wasn't the Republicans who appointed Simpson-Bowles? It was who?

Oh, never mind.

3. Yes, I'm just being a little playful.
Unfortunately I flunked "telegraphing intent" 101 back in school.

6. It didn't happen before, it is being perpetrated now.
On a pseudo-Democratic president's watch. And would require Democratic perpetrators in congress. These Dems need to be pressured now; and if they go ahead, they need to be punished at the polls.

8. The ruling class was smart. They picked someone with a "D" to help them
implement their Republican, corporate, and rotten policies.

They knew that many of us are easily fooled. And even once fooled, many will maintain their delusion to avoid admitting they were misled.

We can only confront and prevail against our adversaries once we know and acknowledge who they are.

I don't think it's too late to preserve most of our existing social safety net, but time is running out. We are going to need to recruit better candidates (from the working class) to run for Congress. I'm not sure a working-class candidate would ever be able to seriously have a shot at the Presidency, but if we can gain a foothold in Congress, we can provide a check on the WH's right-leaning "negotitations."

9. True. If a Repug were doing this we'd have Wisconsin style protests on a
National level. Very canny of them.

Bill Clinton's administration. But with this one, I expected it. Can't fool me twice.
