NBC/WSJ poll: Bachmann surges to 2nd place in '12 GOP field
Source:MSN

In the race for the Republican presidential nomination, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney remains the national leader with 30 percent of GOP primary voters saying he’s their first choice, according to a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.

But Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has surged into second place with support from 16 percent of GOP primary voters. A month ago -- before she announced her presidential bid -- Bachmann was just at 3 percent in the survey.

(In the current poll's crosstabs, Romney narrowly leads Bachmann among Tea Party supporters, 24 to 20 percent, while Bachmann is ahead among Republican primary voters who identify themselves as very conservative, 24 to 22 percent.)

In the GOP trial heat, Romney and Bachmann are followed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry (who hasn’t yet decided on a presidential run) at 11 percent, Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 9 percent and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent.

5. Let me put this into perspective for you.

1) What the hell is wrong with some people?

Bachman is batshit crazy. Right? Unlike what republicans?
Well, regardless of who she or her husband are or how BS crazy they are there is a majority of those polled (Republicans) who will cast their votes for her right now.
Next year may be a different story. It may be Romney or some other pretender in the top GOP slot. Who can really predict?

2) Don't they understand what what she represents?

People are stupid, lazy and really don't care until about two months before the election...give or take a few months. She may represent crazy, but to the low information-voters out there...who knows what they believe? *Perhaps they are as crazy as she.

3) The wild card. A lot can happen in a year+. If things go south with the catfood commission bait and switch...if President Obama touches SS or Medicare...if taxes for the rich remain in place then you may see an exodus from the voting part of the Democratic party and a lot of Angry *independent American voters who wil vote for the "Other Gal" or stay home.

So you see; a little perspective is a good thing.

I hope all goes well with the debt talks so you can call this layout bullshit. I'll be happy to toast you on that one.

3. Surging when applied to that group of lightweights is not particularly difficult
It is similar to saying she surged into 2nd place in a race where she passed a guy who passed out, a person who got lost, someone in a hospital bed and the dead guy and she is now chasing someone on crutches.

6. GOP PRIMARY voters, not the general electorate
A relatively small number of people vote in primaries. GOP primary voters are looking for ideological purity, and Bachmann gives them what they seek.

The tea party is so extreme in their demand for said purity there's not a Republican president in American history who would have been acceptable to them, including Reagan.

I think the seriously rich are using Batshit Bachmann to kill the tea party. Extremely rich people all have at least some of their money in government debt, because it's the lowest-risk investment around. The baggers' desire to cause the government to default on its debt is threatening that sacred status.
