Who Pays for Rick Perry to Crisscross the Country?

by Thanh Tan

Gov. Rick Perry has been burning up the miles since he won re-election last year. He is on track to have made nearly 50 stops in 21 states by November. ....

The specific costs of those services (security detail, by TDPS) are confidential. The Tribune's request for that information is pending review. In the past, though, the DPS has released total figures but has withheld itemized expenses, citing security concerns. The Texas Supreme Court recently sided with the department and ruled that the records should remain sealed.

The Texas Legislature added another layer of secrecy to the process when it passed a new law this year that will conceal peace officers’ travel vouchers for 18 months. The rule takes effect Sept. 28, which means the public could eventually learn about security expenses, but only for trips made after that date. All previous records can remain confidential. Though the department will file quarterly reports, it is required to report only lump sums, not detailed line-item travel expenditures. ....

His definition of frugal, however, may differ from the average Texan’s. Perry’s journeys around the country and the world have come under scrutiny in the past. Critics like Keith Elkins, the executive director of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, said the few records that had been released to the public included rentals for a golf cart and scuba gear during a trip Perry made to the Bahamas. ....

1. As Texas looks at widespread poverty, THIS is how the good "xtian" governor behaves.
If Perry DOES get into the presidential line-up, I will work my ass off to see that every Democrat in my area makes it to the polls(not that I wouldn't anyway).

3. "the choice of the majority." In '06, took 39%. Most things TX are inflated.
And, more broadly, most everything in Texas Tuff Tawk, like Shrub.

The spiel about Goodhair is that he has never lost an election. Well, in '06 his winning percentage was 39% because the serial bride Ms STRAYHORN took the teachers into voting for her and the Don slIMUS jerkoff Kinky FRIEDMAN convinced the young, 3rd party, Greens, NADIRites to vote for him with pastel art portraits of himself, splitting the votes. Just with either of those two splinter groups, the Democratic candidate Chris BELL could have beat him.

So the rest of the Texas Tuff Tawk is phooey, too: TX has a Weak Governor system, so all the credit that Shrub and now Goodhair get for executive experience and leadership is CRAP. It's all TAWKING TUFF. Bluster. Shrub is afeard of horses, as Vicente FOX demonstrated, and Goodhair just unleashes his fearsomeness on undocumented immigrants and DPS officers who stop his chauffeurs for speeding.

My mantra: The day Goodhair announces, I start the countdown to the day he withdraws.

.... In the 2006 November general election Perry defeated a Democrat, former Congressman Chris Bell of Houston; a Libertarian, sales consultant James Werner; and two independent candidates, outgoing Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn] and "Kinky" Friedman, a country singer. Perry polled 1,714,618 (39 percent) to Bell's 1,309,774 (29.8 percent), Strayhorn's 789,432 (18 percent), Friedman's 553,327 (12.6 percent), and Werner's 26,726 (0.6 percent). ....
