A new Pew poll finds that a majority of Republicans voters, and an even larger majority of Tea Party supporters, simply don’t think failing to raise the debt ceiling will lead to a crisis:

By a 53% to 30% margin, most Republicans say that it will not be a major problem if the debt ceiling is not raised by Aug. 2. The balance of opinion is the reverse among Democrats: 56% say it is absolutely essential to meet that deadline to avoid an economic crisis, 28% say it is not. Independents are more divided, though a slim 43% plurality say the country can go past Aug. 2 without major economic problems, while 32% say it is essential to raise the debt limit by this date...

Tea Party Republicans are by far the most unconvinced about the potential fallout from going past the Aug. 2 deadline. Fully 65% of Republicans and Republican leaning independents who agree with the Tea Party see no major problems if this occurs, compared with 45% of Republicans and Republican leaners who do not agree with the Tea Party.

1. Tea Party Republicans are the dumbest sheeple on the planet. Like lambs willfully grazing on the....
path to the slaughter house.

They have no clue what they are doing and were they are going.

2. This is what happens when the Country Club set uses wedge issues like
abortion and equal rights to plump their numbers at the polls. They end up having to fight internally to protect their own self interest.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

3. Nice to see the Repukes almost go at each other. Then they patch the cut, cap and balance
plan as a sort of bandaid to keep them together. It will fail. Let's hope it is the band aid that didn't heal.

4. I'm going to say...

I'm going to say, yes. Yes, those Koch guys knew what they were creating. Gum up the works, prevent government from governing, maybe sway things in a direction more advantageous to themselves. If we actually end up in default or some great catastrophe, they'll be like Mr. Potter in the 1929 collapse, keeping their heads and using the crisis to their advantage, too big to be hurt by it very much.

I think the real question is whether the Tea Party types know what they actually are, what they're doing, and whose interests are being served. I think the real RW movers, the ones behind the curtains, are smarter than we usually want to believe. The poor fools on the ground, perhaps not so much. But the Tea Party rank and file will be suffering along with the rest of us if a worst case scenario unfolds.

5. YES!
It is what they want, corporatism or facism, it suits them just fine.
