Domestic abuse legislation heads to governor (Brown)
SACRAMENTO, CA - California lawmakers have resoundingly approved three bills to increase protections for victims of domestic violence.

Now Gov. Jerry Brown must decide whether to sign the bills that were sent to him last week by legislators, into law.

One bill would give judges more power to impose restraining orders for up to 10 years when an abuser is convicted of any domestic violence charge.

Another would ensure that victims are notified when a judge is asked to end a protective order early. A third would make it easier to pursue felony charges when an abuser chokes his victim.

1. Sounds good to me!
People who have been abused like that need all the help they can get.

I hope these don't backfire like the "three strike law."

2. More to do.
I'm in NJ and my client is a victim of domestic violence. Child Protection took away her five children and is trying to have her rights terminated and the children adopted by the foster parents. Just because she stayed with her abuser in the beginning. (She's rehabilitated now, after taking programs, undergoing counseling, and getting medical attention. She's in hiding in another state from her husband.)
