3. Apparently 68% want a tax hike on the rich. 25% not. Obama needs to push
for the big deal with tax revenue increases and split the rich/corporate gop from the tea party gop.

4. No, it's true.
There are some Americans that don't want tax hikes.

No one said ALL or MOST or QUITE A FEW Americans.

5. He showed clips of Republican after republican people saying
"the American people don't want..." That IMPLIES the majority, whereas the MAJORITY want a balanced approach, part "taxing the corporations", part spending cuts.

12. Thanks to congress and tax laws, corporations are geniuses at avoiding taxes:

US Uncut: The New Movement against Austerity and Corporate Tax Cheats
by Brian Tierney

Recent reporting that some of the largest U.S. corporations have paid little to nothing in federal income taxes in the past few years hasn’t stopped the upside-down debate in Washington. The beltway budget battle remains focused on one blunt question: how much of a beating should be given to workers and the poor in order to bring down the deficit while leaving the corporate bottom line unscathed?

-snip

Thanks to tax breaks, creative accounting schemes, loopholes and off-shore havens, these companies are raking in billions and getting away with systematic tax-evading operations that would land ordinary people in jail.

Launched back in February, US Uncut has so far made Bank of America and Verizon the primary targets of its actions. According to US Uncut, Bank of America’s 2009 pre-tax income was $4.4 billion. As the fifth largest corporation in the world, Bank of America received $45 billion in bailout funds in 2008 and 2009 but didn’t pay a single dime in federal income taxes in 2009. In the same year, Bank of America received up to $1.9 billion in tax refunds.

How did they get away with it? Bank of America has 115 foreign tax-havens where it keeps its income in order to avoid taxes. And Bank of America is not alone. Roughly 25 percent of the largest U.S. corporations don’t pay any federal income taxes.

-snip

When asked why US Uncut is focused on tax-dodging companies rather than the lawmakers who enable them, Taghi pointed to the corporations as the real source of power in Washington:

“US Uncut has focused on bringing protests to companies’ storefronts, instead of lawmakers, because that is where the true powers lie. On the whole, for companies to claim ignorance or deny responsibility for our lopsided tax code – that legalizes off-shoring of profits and accounting gimmicks – is a farce. These companies have lobbied Congress for such privileges and donate to representatives to enact loopholes.??

6. The American People don't want ...
it implies that if you want something other than what the speaker wants, you are not American, you are other. It's worked for them for a long time. I think The American People are beginning to catch on to the game.

7. So, you gotta' wonder, why do the ultra rich say they think they could pay
Edited on Thu Jul-14-11 10:22 PM by sad sally
more taxes, they know they should pay more taxes, but would they pay more? coulda' shoulda' woulda' - not!

Rich people want to pay more taxes...

Obama said it on during his speech on the budget. Ultra rich liberals use it as an excuse to raise taxes on the upper class.
But it is a lie none the less. A classic example of this big lie came in the 2003 California governors race. Arianna Huffington a liberal multi-millionaire was taking the typical line that the way out of California's fiscal mess was to tax the rich. Her opponent Arnold Schwarzenegger pointed out that although she was very rich, she paid no taxes in the previous year. Her defense was that her deductions were all legal.

Thus the big lie. Just because you can legally claim a tax deduction doesn't mean you have to. And even if you did decide to take all of your "legal" deductions, you can still donate money to the government. That is how the Federal government use to operate. All income came from tariffs and donations.

So you see all the ultra rich liberals out there can pay more taxes if they really wanted to. Barack Obama could donate his salary to the country and still be pretty well off. Bill Clinton could donate more of his income to the country and still be well off. They are all hypocrites. The goal is not to increase tax revenue. The goal is to redistribute wealth. That is it is to redistribute everyone else's wealth. Meaning the middle and upper-middle class.

So the next time an ultra rich liberal says they wished that they can pay more taxes. Tell them to prove it. Lets see them write a big check to the government right then and there.

8. If I were uber wealthy, I'd take advantage of the deductions, too,
but probably feel guilty and donate more to charities.

11. That is sad, if they starve the US enough on taxes, who will protect the ultra rich...
from the rest of the world?
As for your idea that Clinton or Obama are the "ultra rich", I bet not.

14. Ariana Huffington didn't even pay her writers -
Some of her best-est and brightest don't get a salary - just exposure.

But she gets the Buy out and the Big Bucks in return for her efforts.

And it is very true - anyone who wants to write a check to the government for more than they' re paying can easily do so.
