The USA: We have seen the enemy and the enemy is us
Edited on Thu Jul-14-11 12:24 PM by Taverner
Yes, there has been some serious infighting lately. I'd like to think we're a little more focused now, and the sides have been set. The line in the sand has been drawn, and we're ready to fight. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, find another thread, I'm too tired to re-explain it.

But this anger, hate and divisiveness has now begun in the US. Among my RW friends, you are either with the Republicans, or you are a commie and unamerican. It wasn't always this way, and even at our most polarized times during the Bush admin, we were never this contemptuous of each other.

This will get ugly. And by ugly I mean people getting hurt - violence involving American against American. I guess the Knuckledraggers meant it when they said they weren't ready for a Black President. Their racism is on full display now, and there's no hiding it.

As bizarre as it sounds, Mitch McConnell and Boener are the most level headed of the knuckledraggers. I am sure when the cameras are off, and the doors are locked, they aren't - but at least when on TV, they aren't as bad as the k-dragosphere.

Perhaps Osama Bin Laden laughs last: America crumbles as did the USSR. We become our own worst enemies. That was OBL's plan all along, you know. He was crazy but he sure wasn't stupid. And he spent enough time in the US to see its weaknesses: the inherent racism at the core of our country, and how it would tear us apart.

Tim Wise made a salient point - White Americans cannot afford White Privilege because it makes us naive, unaware to the world around us, and oblivious to our flaws. Those without that privilege see when the Emperor has no clothes, but those with see just a glorious day and nothing at all amiss.

1. Being with the RW or being a pinko -- actually, it always was that way.
At least in the 1950s and 1960s it was. The thing was, as the 50s turned into the later 60s, the argument lost its bite. Don't obsess on what the RW says about the rest of us, instead fight against their framing of the debate.
