It’s one thing to be at the helm of the leading country and another to do what your husband says
Republican Presidential Candidate Michele Bachmann is surging in the latest polls in New Hampshire and Iowa both tight races with Mitt Romney. In many ways Bachmann is the anti-Romney. She’s fiery and unapologetic about her extreme policy positions even her belief that that black children fared better during slavery. There is a lot to be said of her judgement.
Bachmann is also a conservative Christian who believes in the biblical principle that a wife should submit to her husband. Dr. Marcus Bachmann was recently profiled in the Washington Post where Michele Bachmann’s brother Peter was quoted saying, “
is her godly husband...The husband is to be the head of the wife, according to God." Michele Bachmann has even stated that she chose to pursue her law degree upon her husband’s direction saying, "he Lord says: Be submissive, wives. You are to be submissive to your husbands.”
Bachmann believes in this biblical teaching found in Ephesians 5:22-24:
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
If Michele Bachmann is a “submissive wife” as she claims to be based on biblical teachings, then how can she be President of the United States? How can Bachmann be the leader of the free world when she is not the leader of her own household? Let’s imagine a scenario where Bachmann is faced with a foreign policy crisis with North Korea. If Bachmann defers to her husband’s judgment an exchange could go something like this:
