President Obama's Statement
Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 03:23 PM by sixmile
President Obama's statement:

This morning, in an unspeakable tragedy, a number of Americans were shot in Tuscon, Arizona, at a constituent meeting with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. And while we are continuing to receive information, we know that some have passed away, and that Representative Giffords is gravely wounded.
We do not yet have all the answers. What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Giffords, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers.

4. It was read on MSNBC -
It was implied that the President is to be going to make a recorded statement later on today, after most of the confusion is sorted out.

5. That's sticking your neck out, Mr President
Maybe it's premature for him to be pointing fingers. But once he learns a bit more about what provoked this heinous act, I would hope he comes out with a stronger statement than that.

10. You're right, at this point there isn't a lot he can say
Very few facts are known.

However, I would hope that once the facts are known, he will issue a strong statement naming names and pointing fingers.

This kind of shit has to stop and he has more power to stop it than any one single human being in the country.

11. I would be hopeful for a "Bill Clinton post-OKC bombing" type of statement
That seemed to helped tamp down on some of the extreme RW anger percolating during the first two years of his Presidency. Oddly enough, Obama has faced a quite similar situation himself (maybe even worse).

8. Is this kind of thing what Obama has been afraid of all along & why he has done everything
the rethugs want him to?

And even at that, it's NOT enough for the gawd damn sociopathic rethugs!

This country is unfuckingbelievable!
