Raise Your Hand If You're Sick of Dan Choi
Full article and screen shot of Choi's Twitter feed here: http://www.broadwaycarl.com/2011/06/raise-your-hand-if-youre-sick-of-dan.html

p.s. There is enough 'real' stuff for Choi to be talking about, but his making up and tweeting out of of false Obama quotes goes over the line (example: the third tweet with the Obama quote is completely false). Seems like Choi is trying to diminish his credibility.

1. Big deal.
No worse than if it was in The Onion. I doubt anyone would think it's an actual quote. If they do' they're pretty dense.

2. Satire is a great reason to go on a vendetta against a Veteran
who has done great things for his community, I think. I mean Choi first discharged Obama then had Obama arrested, then Choi keeps saying that God does not want people like Obama to be able to get married! He's scum!

4. Satire? An excerpt below from another article sums it up - Choi is dishonest
"Obamabots", the "Professional Left", and total fabrications

SNIP

Perhaps this tweet was sarcastic -- Choi doesn't mention such in the tweet, nor does he note the intent of this tweet elsewhere on his Twitter feed -- but that doesn't matter. Choi attributed a quote to Obama that the President never said. In case you missed this class in first grade, this is called a "lie". And people who willfully tell lies to defame their opponents are "dishonest". And you should not trust a dishonest person.

I no longer trust Mr. Choi.

Whenever I express my opinions about our president's actions, and how disappointed I am during his occupancy of the Oval Office, I do my best to stick to the facts. And when I say "our president", this counts for both Republicans and Democrats -- I defended Bush from lies, too. And I fucking hated the guy. But when you build a case against a politician, if you veer away from facts and base your opinion on fabrications, then you really need to step back, assess your actions, and ask yourself if you're a fucking asshole.

I don't trust fucking assholes.

SNIP

9. Some jerk slamming Choi, what has the jerk done for anyone?
This is some blogger's nasty opinion, sounds bigoted to me, starkly so. He shows several tweets one with a parody of the Presidents craven display of verbiage. It is funny because it is true.
To cast a satirical comment as being dishonest instead of satirical is a cheap lie, without intelligence, and clearly without humor. Perhaps 'Broadway Carl' is a non de blog for Tracy Morgan?

You, on the other hand, still have some time to correct the false claims in your OP.

16. What false claims in the OP?
1) Dan Choi tweeted a quote which he attributed to Obama.
2) Obama never said what Choi typed, therefore the quote and the tweet are false.

It isn't. It's some unknown blog. And the blogger doesn't analyze anything. For someone who is too literal to recognize satire, you sure are loose in your own usage.

40. Well let's not nit-pick the word 'article'. It is circulating all around the net and on Twitter ...
so it could be considered to be in circulation ;)

Have a great weekend!

p.s. There is absolutely no evidence that the false quote was posted as satire.

44. What joke?
There was no joke.
All there was was a quote attributed to Obama by Choi that was false.

I do hope that you realize that we are on the same team.
I was a HUGE advocate of Choi's here on DU up until around the end of last month.
Earlier this evening I was perusing some of the posts I posted regarding Choi in 2010 and even came across a comment that I made where I called Choi a HERO.

So, if he is out doing something dishonest - I believe I have a right to say something about it.

Parody is not falsehood, it is parody. It is clear that he is satirizing the President's insulting verbiage. We all get it. You and some blogger named 'Broadway Carl' do not get it. It is a pitiful display. To claim a joke is a serious comment as part of attempting to slander a Democratic hero is a disgusting way to spend your time, if you ask me.

The name calling is another charming element of your post. Not really cricket, that. The word 'cheerleader' is specifically vorbotten, in fact.

Now your accusation of 'my putdowns of gay activists' - please show evidence of that. Where have I ever putdown ACTIVISTS <--- which means more than one.

I have posted this ONE OP regarding Choi tweeting a falsehood.

Is Choi off limits for some reason, he is allowed to lie? Why shouldn't he be exposed if he is not telling the truth? Is everyone supposed to follow Choi blindly and excepted to ignore his dishonesty?

And 'NO' not everyone thinks it was satire or a joke or 'just' an opinion. 100s of folks on Twitter and all over the net are really pissed right now at Choi for lying and being dishonest due to his tweeting a FALSE Obama quote - since the time he tweeted his tweet his has lost quite a lot of support.

56. I love the hypocrisy of someone who can type this in regards to Cuomo
Cuomo's "confidence and strength?" Cuomo signing off on New York's legislation is a no brainer. Show me a bipartisan Congress willing to pass a bill repealing DOMA and I'll show you a President Obama signing the goddamn thing before the ink is dry.

who then links to this list in regards to Obama

Signed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which expanded existing United States federal hate crime law to include crimes motivated by a victim’s actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability – the first positive federal LGBT legislation in the nation’s history

Signed repeal of Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell

Signed the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act

end of quote

Now which is it? Is signing such bills a big deal or is it not?

On top of the hypocrisy is the lying. Cuomo is universally credited with having made marriage equality a priority and arm twisting personally arm twisting legislators to make it happen. To call that merely signing legislation is rank dishonesty. And to top of his lies. His first accomplishment for Obama has a lie in it too. The first pro gay legislation which passed, actually passed under Bush, it was a pension reform bill which permitted gays to name partners on their pensions. So why should I trust this blogger again?

the false Obama quote that Choi tweeted.

There is absolutely no evidence at all that Choi was being sarcastic - or 'telling a joke' as some folks have called it.

He composed a 'quote' in quotation marks attached to Obama's name.

That was a dishonest action and there's no way getting around it.
