1. I like the statement from the pilot that said "that is not us, and they wonder why
pilots have a bad reputation". Southwest should fire the asshole that was the person making the crude statements.

44. LOL, yeah "that is not us",
Sure...It must have been the pilots on the Qantas LAX-Sydney flight, some 6,000 miles away...

The unamed pilot is still on the job...

He didn't get fired, but the flight attendants are not happy.

8. He totally should have been fired
I would think that every one of those 12 flight attendants could have a potential harassment claim against the airline. Plus all the future flight attendants who are on his plane, and you KNOW they all know who it was.

24. Here:
Air Traffic Controller - (ATC) "United 242, you (center up)"
(Stuck microphone begins) Southwest Pilot: "Well, I had Tucson to Indy all four weeks and, uh, Chicago crews…11 out of 12 …there’s 12 flight attendants, individual, never the same flight attendant twice.
"Eleven (expletive) over the top (expletive), (expletive) homosexuals and a granny." (silence)
"Eleven. I mean, think of the odds of that. I thought I was in Chicago, which was party-land."
(Possible attempt to interrupt by ATC)
Southwest Pilot: "After that, it was just a continuous stream of gays and grannies and grandes…" (off mic from his copilot - inaudible)
Pilot answers: "Well I don’t give a (expletive). I hate 100 percent of their (expletive)."
"So, six months, I went to the bar three times. In six months, three times." (Another possible attempt to interrupt by ATC)
"Once with the granny and the (slur against gay people), and I wish I hadn’t gone."
"At the very end with two girls, one of them that was part do-able, but we ended up going to the bar and then to the crew at St. Louis, and all these two women wanted to do was, one wanted to berate her sister and the other wanted to bitch about her husband."
"Literally, for three hours, me and the F.O. (First officer). When that was done, got back to my room, I’m like why the (expletive) did I stay up?"
ATC: "OK, whoever is, uh, transmitting, better watch what you’re saying."
(Tones beeping)
Southwest Pilot continues: "They’re still both (inaudible), you know what I mean? I still wouldn’t want anyone to know if I had banged them."
(Tones beeping)
"So, I mean it was a complete disaster for six months."
"Now I’m back in Houston, which is easily where the ugliest base is. I mean it’s all these (expletive) old dudes and grannies and there’s like maybe a handful of cute chicks."
ATC: "OK, someone’s got a stuck mic and, uh, telling us all about their endeavors. We don’t need to hear that."
(Stuck microphone episode ends)
(Silence)
(Five seconds later, other commercial pilots check in with controllers)
"Uh, Houston, Skywest 6285, we're (gives numbers for his heading) ...and that was not us."
ATC: (Chuckles) "Skywest 6285, Houston Center: Roger, Climb and maintain flight level 360."
Skywest pilot: "360, Skywest 6285….And they wonder why airline pilots have a bad reputation."
(ATC calls another plane with instructions.)
(Aircraft answers)
ATC: "Number 7 Hotel Bravo: (gives instructions) Final 240."
Aircraft answers "7 Hotel Bravo.....And it wasn’t us either." (beeping times 2)
ATC: 'Roger, I didn’t think that was you." (Recording ends)

16. He vented because the flight attendants weren't suitable for dating.
"gays, grannies and grandes"

lots of expletives and derrogatory terms deleted

His mike was stuck, so it also interfered with communications between FAA and other planes.

50. In this case, "dating" would be a euphemism..
for fucking and chucking.

Those poor pilots. They so deserve supermodel flight attendants who will cater to their every sexual whim after they land the plane. So heartbreaking that they have to work with gay men and non-doable women.

Dude wants to keep his job, he should have to apologize personally to every single flight attendant he's ever flown with.

What an austrolopithican asshole.

disgustedly,

the pilot thought he was having a private conversation with a co-worker. The guy is entitled to his own thoughts and ideas. It is not like he said those things to the flight attendants.

12. There's still on the job professionalism
How does he know that his co-pilot isn't gay? Or that his co-pilot doesn't have a gay friend or family member?

I, for one, do not want to be exposed to racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other -ism on the job, and I would complain to my supervisor if that was my colleague.

15. I am very sure he knew his co-pilot
I worked at the same job for 20 years and I knew who I could confide in and who I could not. I would not go off on a rant to someone who I did not feel comfortable with. I am sure it was done in joking and fun and all of that.

13. But also to be fair, being upset that none of your coworkers is particularly attractive/fuckable...
isn't really the kind of griping about your job that would indicate a real problem.

It sounds to me like it really was probably a joking type of
conversation. I mean really...come on...Surely the man can find someone in the hotels that he stays in. It is probably a typical cockpit joking around subject. You people are taking the subject IMO, and it is just my opinion, way too seriously.

30. Well, as much as I think the guy is a huge dick, I agree with you
and I do so not without some regret...as a gay commercial pilot myself...freedom of speech shouldn't be restricted to words we happen to like. Dammit. ;-)
The obvious invertantcy of the incident absolves him to a large degree.

42. If he weren't at work, that would be one thing.
But if you are on the job, and your speech which would be considered harassment is accidental broadcast, then it doesn't matter if it's inadvertent. He was being unprofessional, whether he thought he was being overheard whether via an accidental open mike or other co-workers. Why should his co-workers have to suck it up just because he didn't mean for it to be heard.

21. My buddy, an Eastern Airlines pilot years ago, didn't notice a stuck microphone button
after the usual after-take-off PA announcement, he was heard to say "Now all I need is a cup of coffee and a good piece of ass"

The senior stew...er, flight attendant ran forward to tell him about the open mic and an older lady in a aisle seat yelled out "Honey, you forgot the coffee!"
