Ryan waxes progressive in Medicare pitch at Fluno Center

MIVE IVEY | [email protected] | The Capital Times | (30) Comments | Posted: Thursday, June 9, 2011

With drumbeating protestors outside the Fluno Center providing background noise throughout, Rep. Paul Ryan delivered his Medicare reform pitch to a UW-Madison real estate conference Thursday and came off sounding almost like a progressive.

Ryan disputed Democrats' use of the term "voucher" in describing his Medicare reform proposal, saying the plan involves directly paying the insurance premiums of seniors based on need — not sending participants a check. Still, he warned that cutbacks in coverage for some Americans will be needed to slow the growth in health care spending by the government.

Ryan's comments were part of an event punctuated by louder protests earlier in the day during a brief appearance by Gov. Scott Walker, where the governor cheered efforts to grow the Wisconsin economy by offering a capital gains tax exemption to spur investment.................

1. i'm sorry, was there something in his plan that was left out when being discussed?
because I am sure they would have brought it up by now. they give the senior a voucher to take to a private insurer for a set amout. then the senior is stuck with the rest. not sure how that helps the poor and sick. what exists NOW helps the poor and sick.
