Seriously, why are repubs even running in 2012?
Any one of these bozos would lose to Obama. The wars and the bad economy are bush products. To my disappointment, Obama hasn't ended the wars. I try to think that it wouldn't be easy, but to me it's a moral necessity. The economy is difficult too. But seriously,
who would be the best POTUS in 2012?
I think the repubs are dead in the water and I think they know it. Why even try?

2. They have to.
It would be unthinkable for them to not put up a candidate.

They'd never live down the shame of it...

3. The people running are an embarrassment to this country. If this is the
best the republicans can do they should sit out the 2012 election. These people are not well and are delusional. And offer no intelligent and rationale solutions.

4. They're also very busy disenfranchising voters.
And rigging up their fucking machines. Perhaps they'll steal yet another very important election.

6. don't get too cocky - they own the media
will have access to unlimited (literally unlimited) money AND
they are working like hell to crash the economy, especially those in the corporate world.
This world will look a damn sight different next year at this time and the RW media wurlitzer will be blaming it all on Obama.
With enough advertising, even Palin can look like a genius

11. Yes. And they have no problem going low to lie, smear,
foment hate and fear, polarize, and mislead. There's no point to owning the media unless you intend on fooling people.

15. And on top of that we have a fair portion of the electorate that is naive,
gullible and easily led. And proud of their ignorance. They are putty in the hands of their manipulators.

7. Yes, this seems to be the conventional wisdom in many Democratic circles...
If there is one thing you should never believe is the conventional wisdom. Never, ever, ever underestimate your enemy.

At least 45% of the American public is going to vote for one of those nuts you saw on stage tonight. That's 45% minimum. If the economy gets worse, one of them could win. If someone like Perry enters the race, we could potentially face an even stronger candidate.

No matter what happens the media is going to turn it into a horse race and you should not delude yourself into thinking Obama's re-election is going to be easy.

Edited on Mon Jun-13-11 10:56 PM by Springer9
on average they do have to at least pretend to make an effort.

Remember Michael Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen in '88
Where did Bob Dole and Jack Kemp come from in '96
Why did we run John Kerry and John Edwards in '06?

Could you call any of those tickets a serious attempt?

It's all a game, and we're the pawns.

17. How about, they have a decent chance of pulling out a win?
Edited on Mon Jun-13-11 11:16 PM by 0rganism
Obama can't stick the wars and the economy on W this time around. He's had plenty of time to put his stamp on them, he owns both now.

The GOPers in the house are doing their very best to ensure the economy is an absolute train wreck so they can blame him even more.

Meantime, certain swing-state legislatures are putting extra obstacles in the way of Democratic constituencies' ability to vote, and ensuring that unions are further neutered in their ability to support candidates.

The Citizens United decision has given corporations free reign to offer direct and anonymous support to candidates with however much money they might choose to employ for such ends.

The GOP outright controls the agenda of some major media sources. It doesn't matter who they nominate, if they can make Obama run against a charicature of himself.

And Obama's a black Muslim from Kenya, or have you forgotten?

To be sure, it won't be easy for the GOP to win - they'll have to use every dirty trick they have to beat him. But they have a LOT of tricks and we'd be fools to think we won't see them all in play next year, including a few brand new ones we've never seen before.

Obama's currently the odds-on favorite, but it's not a lock now, and in 17 months it will be even less so.

Mostly becouse of the fact, that the US population is more than able to vote for the dumbest, most stupid person been on the ballot.. That was proven withouth doubt when GWB got the office in 2000, and then again in 2004.. If the GOP just make a case, and tell enough lies, enough of US population wil posible vote for the dumbest, most imbesil, most stupid person of the two.. And they wee all have a Sarah Palin on our hands... As long as the person are acting as "one of the crowd" the are no matter if the person are just a big air of nothing.. If she/he can sharm enough americans - they can still win the game.. After all, you managed to have GWB twice.. And he was not even charming...

And, you can allways do the other thing, waiw the american flag in the front of americans.. US seen to be blind to everything, as long as you just waiw the flag in front of you. And the GOP is dam good at waiwing the American flag in front of the american pepole when they need to do it...

So, i Would not bet on the posibility of a OBAMA win in 2012 before he IS elected president in 2012.. Mostly becouse we was proven wrong, when we, on the outside belived that US allways was woting for the sane person.. Even tho when the other guy was in the lead... Now we KNOW that not to be the fact anymore...

It is not just a economical ruin GWB managed to do, he also managed to ruin a lot of trust between the outside world and US the 8 year he was president.. And that trust, wil have to be rebuld over many, many years to come... It is posible, but it wil take years..

20. Intrade
Intrade puts their chances at almost 40%. Obama is not a very popular president. He would be beatable if they could field a decent candidate. They probably won't.
