Weiner’s Problem is the Media, Says Rangel: "Not one person has given any reason for a resignation"
Anthony Weiner’s Problem is the Media, Says Rangel

RANGEL DOESNT THINK WEINER SHOULD RESIGN

"Not one person has given any reason for a resignation," Rangel told PolitickerNY on Friday. He said that Weiner's indiscretions were far less serious than past political sex scandals and that the Queens lawmaker could still do his job well if "the press gets his back."

"He wasn't going with prostitutes. He wasn't going out with little boys. He wasn't going into men's room with broad stances," Rangel said. "I mean, All of those I understand; I'm 80 years old. But high-tech stuff like this, I can't respond. But I know immoral sex when I hear it from other members, and no one has screamed for their resignation. So I don't know why they're selecting Anthony."

16. Yes, an actual real war hero, a tough fighter for those he cares about
and a great Democrat and a man with the guts to stand up to Dick Cheney, AND to refuse to be driven from office with the help of the same spineless, disloyal Democrats who could care less about the people and worry only that the opinions of the far right matter more to them than anything. Always willing to toss overboard some the best Democrats in this country.

Good for Charlie, I knew we could depend on him to show them how a real Democrat, which he is, should act towards another colleague.

He was where Weiner is right now, and our president had the gall to try to speak for Rangel's constituents, and is their MO, 'advise' him to step down. Well, Charlie's constituents didn't agree with this president and they reelected him again.

I'm beginning to think that many Democrats do not belong in politics. It's a tough field, and if can't stand up for one of your own, especially when they are a target of the 'enemy', then you really need to find an easier job.

Go Charlie! He's the second Democrat from NY to stand up for Weiner. A real man of the people.

Shame on the wimps in DC who jump to Breitbart's tune every time he cracks the whip.

8. Maybe that would be a reason if they could be counted on to shut up in that situation.

It's a poor exchange, nonetheless. I would rather he not resigned and kept his head down for a few months while everything blows over. If they have write about the same thing every day, then they won't have anything to write about without a trickle of information.

17. I disagree. The chief reason for him to resign would be if if his
constituents demanded it. They have not, they have stated that they do not WANT him to resign. He does not represent the media, he represents the people who elected him.

DC and the media have proven over and over again how out of touch they are with real people. Even Republicans are sick of these witch hunts.

Rangel and Clinton refused to be pushed from office because of a bunch of up-tight morons on the right, Dems need to develop some courage and start fighting the right, stop handing them victories every time they conduct another witch hunt. And they need to stop fighting their own.

People want a party that stand up to the right, not one that is led by the right. I find it incredible that they are so frightened of the likes of Andrew Breitbart that each person he targets, they have tossed overboard. It is embarrassing when it would be so easy to demolish a person of his ilk.

7. Nice to see Charlie could throw in a couple of gay slurs in his defense.
But Charlie is correct that Weiner's problems are not as serious as his own and he did not resign. His corruption is still alive and well in Congress.

14. It was a slur by an old and well known homophobe.
Again, if you have to have Charlie "I don't have to pay taxes" Rangel defend you, you are in bad shape.

23. I know exactly what he was referring to.
And I know the slur Rangel was making. Foley was accused of sending sexually suggestive emails to 17 and 18 year old congressional pages. Hardly "little boys" that Rangel states. But I don't expect the truth from someone who fabricated documents in order not to pay his taxes.

11. Rachel Maddow was spot on a few days ago
You want weiner to resign, then demand that Vitter reason, and anyone else in Congress who has lied publicly. Very easy to prove and a very long list. This is between Weiner, his wife, and his constituents. If the GOP wants to make hay out of it, bring it own. No reason to fear such a charade. We then shine the spotlight on their people, and this goes away very fast. Most people really do get it. The media--no!
