"The speaker's contract stipulates the Democrat's ground transportation be a sedan, NOT an SUV."

If you're looking to book Al Gore for a 75-minute "Environmental Multimedia Lecture," the former vice president will cost you $100,000, plus travel, hotel, security, and per diem expenses.

Gore's standard speaker's contract, a copy of which you'll find here, also stipulates that the Democrat's ground transportation be "a sedan, NOT an SUV." Additionally, Gore requests that speech sponsors make every effort to use a hybrid vehicle for his transport.

The Gore contract stipulates that no press be permitted at the event and that the Democrat receive approval over the distribution of photographs from the appearance.

Gore's contract for a May 21 appearance at the University of California, San Diego was released by the school. Though the contract seeks "absolute confidentiality" when it comes to the deal's terms, since UCSD is a public university, the California Public Records Act requires that the document be released upon request. 21. ah, so everybody who selects a sedan instead of an SUV is an ass --thank you for your input!
and no, you didn't say anything else so we ARE judging you by what you've said in your glib response.

not that i'm surprised, you always call Al Gore names, in fact, that's usually the sum total of your contribution to any thread about Al Gore --to call him a terse name and then move on, reveling in your own self satisfaction. why, that makes you, the pot!

i believe. :dilemma:

32. Stipulation in re such things are SOP of contracts wherein there is an audience.
Edited on Fri Jun-10-11 08:52 AM by Melinda
Image control (vanity) may indicate shallowness, however calling people names on a message board - particularly without providing any basis - is just as shallow.

All public figures riding the lecture circuit have requirements, and this includes photograph control. Public relations is an industry of its own.

And while I don't understand how controlling one's (literal) image makes anyone an ass - and that includes the cupcake of the right, MsP - no one "makes" anyone sign contracts. Contracts are mutually negotiated and agreed upon by both parties. If the entity paying the fee for the appearance wants photo control, thats a point of contention to be negotiated prior to signing the contract. No one hiring former VP Gore is forced to sign, and VP Gore is NOT "making people sign contracts", period.

And frankly, a discussion about an event that occurred 4 yrs ago centered around the image of someone who hasn't been in public office for almost 12 years is, imho...

off the page shallow. Pretty much covers this entire thread, doesn't it.

Best,

Melinda

*edited to add: The picture you refer to is one used by the Smoking Gun when they posted this non-story, and not what you think it is.

One source makes stuff up, the others re-print it. A lesson in media literacy might be in order.

I can't prove it happened. Al Gore's spokesman denied it, the story is not verifiable.

8. He's been photographed with so many SUV's already
the credibility damage is already done

He still hasn't gotten around the fact that his personal consumption excess + jet setting around the world makes him one of the biggest individual producers of man-made carbon dioxide there is. The best thing he could do for the planet is stay home and watch TV.

12. Yes, but we got to hear him speak for free at ETSU.
If you ever get a chance to hear this man speak, it is well worth the time and effort to do so. He is a man ahead of his time.

He spoke at the college just for travel money. They had to move the event from the theater into a 80,000 seat stadium because so many people wanted tickets. And this was in the heart of bible belt, red RepubliCON Tennessee, where during the Civil War several counties wanted to secede from the secession.

17. Why does Al Gore charge money to speak?
$100K?

People have to work to make that money to pay him, which requires creation of carbon. Plus, he's a multimillionaire already, and I thought he wanted to evangelize for environmentalism.

Oh well - he's been exposed as a hypocrite already. Might as well enjoy it.
