Congressman Weiner gone before Monday
Okay, before you attack me as a "Freeper" and a throw a bunch of STFUs, I am only reading the tea leaves. My girlfriend hates to watch Criminal Minds with me because I always seem to figure it out before they do.

Weiner has been abandoned by the party leadership in both houses. High level political pundits are throwing him under the bus. He has nowhere to turn. No one of significance has his back. He is a joke on the late-night circuit. No one seems to think he is worth fighting for. Coming on the heels of John Edwards indictments definitely did not help. John is quietly whispering, “Thanks Tony.”

Today was his Hail Mary Pass with his apologies but they were not well accepted. There was no empathy from the media. Apologizing to Bill Clinton was plain creepy. Too many things just did not ring right. The press generally reported the “unusual nature“ of the act.
Most reports were that he was doing it for damage control. None, that I heard of, regarded it as an act of contrition.

Having said that, I have reached the conclusion that he will put in his notice late Friday. Friday is the “throw away” day of News coverage. The pundits will exhaust the story over the weekend and by Monday morning, it will be last week's news. Mentioning Weiner outside of an Oscar-Meyer commercial will get nothing but loud yawn. He will quickly disappear into the footnotes of history.

My first hope was that Pelosi's call for an Ethics Investigation would buy him some "forget about it" time. Investigations, like lawyers, shield the accused. But it was not to be.

I like Congressman Weiner. He has moxy and had a future. He was a blade well honed.
He made some bad decisions that altered that future for him forever.

The best thing for Weiner is to leave with grace and dignity and I am sure he will. If he plays his cards right, he could resurfacing in a couple of years, stronger and smarter.

9. What about the June 2nd email in which he asked
Ginger Lee to lie for him and offered his "team" to help her draft a false statement? If his "team" referred to government employees, that would constitute abuse of office.

13. False statement isn't a crime UNLESS
she was put under oath.

16. The House Ethics rules are relevant here, not just the criminal code.
And if he used Congressional staff to "assist" him with the ladies, that could well be against the rules. We won't know till the investigation is over, which will probably take months -- unless he resigns.

28. neither did others who have resigned in not dissimilar situations
Not every elected official that is caught in behavior unbecoming their office ends up resigning, but Weiner wouldn't be the first or last to do so. That said, I'm not sure that he will resign, although the odds of his staying on are probably around 50/50 at this point. If he doesn't toss it in over the weekend, then he's probably around for the rest of his term, albeit with little or no influence.

3. His constituents don't agree with you. In polls taken today
in NY only 30% want him to quit.

Charlie Rangel did not have the leadership of either party with him either, so he did it alone, and he won.

Weiner should ignore the party now and listen to those who elected. They are on his side and that is what counts.

Clinton was a late night talk show joke for nearly two years. He did not quit.

Politics is tough and NYers are tough. I hope he is as tough as he seemed before all this.

He doesn't need the party. Sanders doesn't need any part. If the party deserts him, he can run again as an Independent and that's what he should do.

Sick of politicians ignoring the will of the people. And he should not let that happen.

21. I'm not sure if he'll quit, but I'm leaning towards no
I don't think the Rangel and Clinton situations are good guides though. Rangel has been in his seat for almost 40 years and doesn't seem to have much shame/remorse for his tax shenanigans. Resigning was probably never a serious option for him. Clinton was the president and really had to consider the impact on his legacy. Leaving the highest office in the land does not look good in the history books.

Weiner certainly doesn't need to leave - he could probably survive a primary challenge. He's more than capable of serving his district as he has in the past. The problem for him is that much of his public identity was tied in with being a national party figure/leader/visible spokesman. Those days are probably over for now, so I could see him resigning over the loss of that status. But I doubt he'll bow to the pressure now. Maybe later, but not now.

6. Maybe He Was Set Up
Bear with me here. Everybody's got a weakness, and Weiner appears to be vain about his appearance especially about his physique. It wouldn't be difficult to find out about his vanity - just watch the guy preening in the gym.

Maybe his enemies suspected he might fall for a trap - good looking women asking him to pose for them. It's not far fetched; a lot of guys like to be admired. So whoever is feeding this thing finds his Twitter account, and the caper is launched.

Of course he looks like a jerk, and he is a jerk. But it's still a set-up.

And nobody was harmed. He didn't send out "lewd" photographs to teenagers. He sent out pictures of his dick to people who asked to look at it.

11. No one set him up to write the June 2nd email to Ginger Lee.
The one where he asked her to lie for him and offered help from his "team" in drafting up a statement.

25. Yep... that beverage originated as Moxie Nerve Food, a patent medicine.
That's how the word moxie became synonymous with courage.

"Moxy"? I expect that's more recent.
Perhaps one of those "we can't spell it moxie, that's a drink... it must be spelled moxy" things.

12. He should resign. Drop out of sight for a while. Maybe in a few years he can run for some office
again. The GOP media will NOT let this go and democrats will pay a price if he hangs around.

17. Vitter doesn't have photos of him in diapers all over the internet.
The photos are what makes this pretty unforgettable, unfortunately.

But what's wrong with our party having higher standards than the lowest of the low? Comparing him to Vitter or Craig doesn't do him any good, IMHO.
