Someone help me out re Weiner
I've got a question. Hubby and I were talking last night and I quipped that the calls for Weiner to resign were disingenuous, because nobody (in the media, or Republicans), called for Vitter to resign.
Was there an uproar in the media or from Repubes about Vitter? I can't remember...but my inclination as a sentient being in America is that there was not.

Thanks!

1. This is one of those subjects
which serves only to keep more important issues out of the news.

5. Really?
So you don't care if members of Congress are more busy on Facebook and sending graphic photos of themselves to women on Twitter, as opposed to say, working and reading legislation? I think reading and making laws would keep most members of Congress busy enough, but apparently that doesn't apply to guys like Weiner who have nothing better to do. That's newsworthy, especially when they're always complaining that they don't have time to read the bills they pass. Gee, maybe they have TOO MUCH time on their hands. Reforming Congress, reforming members of Congress, might be a good idea. Might even be an important idea.
I'm sick of all the excuses made for this idiot Weiner. There is nothing defensible about what he did. NOTHING.

8. Rs applauded Vitter, and at least Weiner did't corner under age pages
like Foley. I could tell a few mroe things bout Foley too since I have personally been cornered by him in some ahem low places.
Weiner sent pics, they weren't x rated maybe a bit more than PG..but they go after a D like he molested kids..yes the women were young..but i seem to recall a lot of older guys going for 20 yr olds. HEs not chasing prostitutes.
I think this was stupid of him..and I did not hear that he was sending them from the congress floor..

So when the R$ clean up their act maybe they can bitch about Ds (evn stupid mistake making ones. Im not exactly defending, but the outrage smells of hypocrisy to me.

9. You don't think Weiner was working in Washington? He was
one of the most informed congressmen on the floor, that's why Breitbart was gunning for him.

18. How long do you think it takes to send a tweet?
Good grief, it's not like he had to take a day off to do it. I'm not trying to defend Weiner's action, but I do think it's kind of silly to say he was unable to do his job just because he sent a few pictures of Anthony JR. from his Blackberry.

21. Oh, please!
Your comment implies that he was doing this 24/7 and neglecting his duties. He's one of the hardest working people we have in the House, and he's ALWAYS on our side. Unsavory as this is (and not being straightforward is my biggest complaint,) as long as he does his job to my satisfaction, I'll support him. What he does on the floor of the House of Representatives is hugely important, not what he does on his Blackberry. We need him! We can't get all puritanical -- cutting off our noses to spite our faces. Again, he does a great job for Democrats and ordinary people.

11. Ahh, truly.
Are Europeans as fixated on the genitals of their politicians (provided those politicians didn't do anything illegal, as in the Weiner case)?

2. Can't see how it matters
I don't remember either, but I can't see that it matters. Weiner is scum at this point and he needs to go get some mental help for his need to expose himself to strangers who are young enough to be his daughters. He's a sick man.

6. Vitter's Republicon diaper escapades were generally overlooked, but...
rather than get booted out of the Senate for his adulterous diaper-clad romps with prostitutes in two states, his Republicon Senate colleagues gave him a freaking Standing Ovation.

There's your plug ugly, degenerate Republicon Family Double Standard Values, for you.

13. When Vitter returned to Congress, the GOP members gave him a
standing ovation. No Joke.

You could also include John Ensign who screwed the wife of a staff member, then tried to buy the guy off with 96k and a lobbying job. At least the DOJ is now investigating it (the bribe and the job offer are probably felonies).

Or maybe Mark Sanford who hiked all the way to Argentina to see his mistress, living his wife and 4 sons over father's day while also leaving his state with no one running the place for 4 days. There were some calls for him to resign, but they ended quickly.

Vitter and the diapers immediately came to mind, and Ensign as well (inasmuch as Coburn, my "glorious" senator is involved).

17. It's All Perspective...
Yes, the corporate media made light of Vitter's situation...how else did we learn about the diapers? I also think that had this been revealed during a re-election it would have been a far bigger problem for him than it had since this occured in '07 and he didn't stand for re-election until last year. As we see voters either are "forgiving" or have the attention spans of a flea.

There wasn't an uproar from rushpublican simply cause their modus operandi is when they don't like a story they attack the messenger. It wasn't Vitter who was at fault but the Madam and those in the corporate media who dared to report it. They ALWAYS put party ahead of all else...why they tolerated Wide Stance Craig and the embezzling adulterer Ensign among many others. It's all about power...the ends justifying the means and if that means looking the other way when one of yours cheats or steals or lies, that's all good.

The "equivelency" game is a no-win cause it depends on the viewpoint of the person trying to balance one act of stupidity against another. Bottom line is Weiner was reckless and stupid...major character flaws. I won't moralize about whether he's some scum of the earth, but being such a prominent figure and playing so fast and loose with strangers was asking for something like this to happen...

20. Yes. There were calls from both sides for Vitter to resign.
For my part, I renew that "call" right now.

They were by no means unanimous. Some republicans are hypocrites (surprise!) and some Democrats would prefer to keep him as a punching bag and easy target.

But yes, many thought he should resign.
