The smoke and Haze in Savannah is incredible
I guess it is coming from the fires down below us. Feels like a preview of the 7oF increase in temp world ahead of us all....

I have lived here before
The days of ice
And of course this is why
I'm so concerned
And I come back to find
The stars misplaced
And the smell of a world
That is burned
A smell of a world
That is burned.

Yeah well, maybe, hmm...
Maybe it's just a... change of climate
Hmm, hmm...
Well I can dig it
I can dig it baby
I just want to see.

So where do I purchase my ticket ?
I'd just like to have a ringside seat
I want to know about the new Mother Earth
I want to hear and see everything
I want to hear and see everything
I want to hear and see everything
Yeah...

"Up from the Skies" -Jimi Hendrix

I don't know how he knew, but he did.....

1. Georgia has wildfires?

Wow.....yes indeed, I checked the news.
worse yet:
a high pressure system has forced the smoke from the air to the ground level. As a result residents as far south as Jacksonville could smell the smoke from the Georgia wildfires.

6. Depends on your price range.
Be sure to stay downtown, preferably on one of the squares. Avoid staying mid-town or on bay/river street, they are noisy. It will be really hot, of course, but mornings and later evenings should be good. The squares are the jewels of the city. Walk them if you can, or take one of the carriage tours.

Things to see- River street, even if commercial it is fun and sipping a cocktail while watching the ship traffic is fun . This place is pretty cool:

Walk along Broughton street and look at the galleries from the SCAD students.

Go to Ft. Pulaski. If you make it a day also go out to the isle of hope neighborhood and drive along bluff drive. Both were featured in the movie "glory"

If you or someone you know were in the girl scouts the founder's house is here as well.

One thing I find interesting is to do a bit of architectural tourism. As you go south from the waterfront you pass through a history of american architecture.(federal to victorian to craftsman to mid century. Go down Whittaker street, then jog over to Abercorn and keep going until you hit midtown, then turn around, go up habersham, jog up to Drayton when you hit victory drive, and go through more amazing houses. going east/west on 37th is victorian central. 45th-57th is Craftsman central.

I would avoid "the Lady and Sons, unless you like very greasy, overpriced food. However the old pink house is very good ,if also very expensive.

Great southern food, much more authentic than the lady and sons.....but be prepared to wait.

9. i guess i better get this thread printed. thank you again! i really
did not want to use the coc for info. i have always feared that they push the attractions who pay them the best. the u.s coc has not disabused me of the opinion that all chambers might be corrupt.

anyway, i really appreciate your guidance.

10. Your car might not start in the morning.
I guess it's a common thing there but when wife and I stayed the night in Savannah a few years ago, we went out to start the car the next day and it wouldn't start. We called the toe truck and they said it would be 15 minutes. We waited an hour and they never showed up. I tried starting the car again and it started right up. I've heard of this happening to others visiting Savannah as well. :)

Don't know if you like ghosts but we did a couple of the ghost tours and had fun. Especially the Sorrel-Weed house tour at midnight was enjoyable. Fun city!
