Food Supply Company, Employing Former Head of Defense Contracting Agency, Wins $4 Billion No-Bid Contract

Robert Dail Supreme Foodservice, provider of meals to U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan since 2005, has won another contract with the Department of Defense, after the company hired the Pentagon’s top logistics leader who oversaw its work.

Having hired retired Army Lieutenant General Robert Dail, one-time director of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), two years ago, Supreme Foodservice is now set to make another $4 billion from its no-bid deal with the military.

The DLA said it granted a two-year contract extension to Supreme Foodservice “in order to maintain continuous prime vendor coverage and uninterrupted supply of vitally needed subsistence items.”

Before he retired in November 2008, Dail gave the company DLA’s New Contractor of the Year award in 2007, for ensuring the successful delivery of food to troops throughout Afghanistan.

Dail now serves as president of Supreme Group USA, a subsidiary of Supreme Foodservice’s parent company, Supreme Group.

Supreme Foodservice has not been without its troubles in Afghanistan. The company apparently owes back taxes to the Afghan government for goods it imported and sold on the local market.
