interesting idea
I have been told about a Rep from Michigan in the Grand Rapids area who posts on facebook which way he votes on everything he does which I think is pretty commendable
Not only does he say which way he voted but he gives the reason he voted that way
He is Republican Justin Amash enen tho he is a republican ..... I personally want t give a thumbs up to this idea Please don't post about his views or about him but what you think about this idea for the rest of our elected officials

1. If he's a Republican...?
How do you know he isn't lying through his teeth? Do you know if he voted to end Medicare? Does he admit to it?

4. Really? So you actually read the OP? Missed this bit?:
Please don't post about his views or about him but what you think about this idea for the rest of our elected officials

The OP is simply asking about the idea of other politicians posting on places like Facebook why they voted as they did.

Not a bad idea. Oh, I think you are on the proper site and welcome to DU.

7. Not keen on it. There are PLENTY of ways that we can watch what our reps are doing--
Edited on Wed May-25-11 01:39 PM by blondeatlast
many of the best are nonpartisan.

Senator McCain ALWAYS has a "good" explanation for why he slapped me in the face again; at least a letter is a bit more personal.

10. Yes there are
I could go to Open Congress (and i do) to see how people voted

but I feel like it would be easier for the general population to "friend" their rep or senator on facebook and get their voted in their feed

But i completely understand what you are saying

11. Thanks
It seems like I can not EVER mention Republicans in a good way.. even slightly or im gonna get yelled at..

I dont agree with Repubs on almost everything but I can be honest to myself unlike most people on here and say I agree with something someone does even tho i hate everything else they do..

20. You have to have a REAL thick skin..
to post in GD. Just don't take offense, keep posting.
Low posters "always" get blasted, trying to keep the trolls in check.

A Michigan welcome to you.

Transparency is good for R or D.

But the way they vote is the most important.

http://www.michiganvotes.org/

and where they get the money is 2nd.

15. Cool idea
I like the idea of a Congress critter giving his/her reasons for voting a certain way as it's happening. It would be easier for me to have stuff like this in my news feed in FB rather than going to their website for more (if any) information.

19. I don't know that facebook's a particularly good place ...
... for that. It seems like he should have his own blog or something instead.

My own congressperson sends out newsletters explain her positions from time to time, but they certainly don't cover every vote she makes.

22. GOP Rep. Amash's tea party supporters boot senior citizens, reporters from event
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/05/24/978570/-GOP-Rep-Amashs-tea-party-supporters-boot-senior-citizens,-reporters-from event?via=blog_1

^snip^

One way Republicans have found of dealing with the bad press and hostility they've faced in public meetings over their highly unpopular budget plan has been what's actually a pretty typical Republican response: censorship. They've clamped down on reporters and citizen journalists, barring them from recording the events.
In Michigan, they've taken it up a notch, courtesy of Tea Party control freaks who not only banned a group of senior citizens and reporters, but called security on them at an event with Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI).

IMHO Posting on Facebook does not make up for this kind of shit, sorry.
