We have a rather largish house(bought as abandoned and need room for visiting or possible live in relatives).
The house takes some 70 bulbs.
Most fixtures take 2 to 5 bulbs. For our dining for instance it takes 5 60 watt bulbs, I swapped for 3.4 watt(equals about 60 watt incand..so for 17 watts I get about 200 watts worth of light. There are 4ft tube replacements, they give more lumens per watt. LEDS do give some heat but no where near the amt incands do. The house had all incand and a few old style flouros bzzzz flickerflash. We had cfls we bought to put in the rental we brought with us

The kitchen lighting took 500 watts now with LEDs it takes less than 200(and its brighter enough to see that I need to bleach the sink more often).
Over 4 yrs we have replaced about 40% of the bulbs in the house for LEDs, did a bunch of little insulation and sealing, replaced a couple of dead appliances with more efficient ones. Our power bill was running 300$ to 450$, now its 140 to 200 peak. That is 200$ with an ac going, it was almost 500 with the big central and with all my little improvements one small HE window unit cools the house sufficiently 70 in the room with the unit and 75 or so in the far end of the house.The power bills are still to much and too much usage. We are on tight (zero) budget and have spent in small amounts to get this far.
I look at the energy usage on everything and look for the one that uses least with best service reviews (can't get repairmen out here hardly).

We intend to get it down to about 400 500 kwhrs then see about starting on building solar power set up. One that would have covered our usage when we first moved in would have been as much as the house cost around 70 to 80g. One to cover us now would still be 25g, one to cover the 400 500 kwhrs would be around 13g.

CFL won't fit. And they don't fit the small socket fixtures either.

in the past few weeks and did not see them. Could have missed them though.

since tungsten light bulbs are to costly to use and other bulbs contain mercury led is the future..if you can afford them.

Unfortunately, for the 100 watt light bulbs, there is not yet a good affordable replacement that fits in most light fixtures.
