Middle Tennessee Police Profiting Off Drug Trade?

<<SNIP>>
Interstate 40 has become a major profit center for Tennessee law enforcement -- with officers stopping and often searching out-of-state vehicles. It's because of a state law that lets them seize money simply based on the suspicion that it's linked to drug trafficking.

If an owner does not take legal action to get the money back, the agency gets to keep it all.

"This is really highway shakedowns coming to the U.S.," said Scott Bullock, senior attorney with the Washington-based Institute for Justice.

10. This happens in northern Illinois all the time too
Have a big wad of hundred dollar bills in your pocket and can't show a withdrawal slip from the bank for the cash and you are fair game.

Not saying we don't have corrupt cops. Small town police chief around here is in club fed right now for some shenanigans.

and because of this:

Tennessee is rapidly becoming the new Mississippi, it would appear.

Not that it is particularly unique in that respect these these days.

I may just stay put *altogether* this summer. It'll serve NY right.

14. Hey, don't insult my birthplace (Mississippi) by comparing it with my home state (Tennessee).

Tennessee has become the new pre-WWII Germany.

Next they'll be handing out pink triangle arm-bands and disappearing progressives. Fortunately, when they attempted the latter with me, the two TBI agents sent to do the dirty work got really, really pissed off that our newly (s)elected Republican flying monkeys were trying to turn them into the Gestapo. They were so pissed that they were happy to carry a message back to the Rethug Secretary of State who sent them to my deep hollow home:

"Grow a pair of balls, man up and call me anytime you have problems with anything I have to say."

That request of mine made it onto the internets within a few hours and made it into print in three of our largest cities within a few days. Despite all that, my operators are still waiting. And they've been waiting for three years.
