The last time Newt made his exit in disgrace, I was there to witness..
Serendipity allowed me to be in the Atlanta airport (departing to return to Colorado) at the same time he was arriving back (sans entourage) to Atlanta after his loss of the speakership and ultimate departure from Congress. I found it so apropos, since I had once endured living in his district before my return to Colorado.

This time around, I'll be happy to settle for a newspaper shot for my schadenfreude.... Something like this, perhaps....;)

1. Newt's the bottom of the rightwing barrel -- but that's all they have now ...
I'm starting to feel like our political life is something like

Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" -- I can see all of his characters in

play -- we're all "Tired" -- !!

And I'm looking forward to the day when we break thru as the cast did right out

of the rightwing Hollywood sound stage -- or Kabuki theater -- whichever way it might

be that you think of rightwing politics!!

2. Newt smeared my good friend Virginia Shapard (D) to win GA 6 in 1978
Newt was an early advocate of the any-lie-to-win technique, later honed to science by Lee Atwater and Carl Rove. Gingrich, a small college history teacher in west Georgia, slimed my good friend Virginia Shapard (then a Democratic state senator from Griffin, Georgia) during the campaign to replace retiring Democrat John (Jack) Flynt, of the then Georgia 6th Congressional District (since re-Gerrymandered).
