Kenyan Olympic marathon champion Samuel Wanjiru plunged to his death from the first-floor balcony of his home after the athlete's wife found him in bed with another woman, police told Reuters.
Reuters

Regional police chief Jaspher Ombati said that Wanjiru's wife, Triza Njeri, surprised the couple when she came home late on Sunday, locked them in the bedroom and ran outside.

"In a rage, Samuel Kamau Wanjiru jumped from the first floor of the house and he was badly injured. When he was rushed to the hospital the doctors tried to resuscitate him but unfortunately he passed on," said Ombati.

6. That is the part that makes no sense to me either...
How incredibly difficult it would be to sustain a fatal injury from a first floor jump--unless he went head first into the concrete, I suppose.

18. Really? Natasha Richardson died from falling the length of her body, less than 6 feet.

5. Yeah, about the only thing I can think of here...
is that he landed on his head and broke his neck or caused concussion and massive brain swelling.

14. British, and probably Kenyan, use is "ground floor, then first floor, then 2nd" etc.
So this is a 10 foot drop plus the height of the window sill. So a fatal injury isn't so unlikely.

17. So probably an indication he didn't land feet first, then
Edited on Mon May-16-11 07:10 PM by muriel_volestrangler
It was a hard landing: picture here

Bleeding from the mouth indicates he hit his head on the concrete, or landed in a way to cause bad internal injuries.

4. First floor probably means second floor here (main floor = first floor to us).

7. So the moral of the story is that you can run (26 miles 385 yards),
but you can't hide...

Hm.

8. Well, at least we know where he acquired his running skills.
Still, he died doing what he loved best: running. I salute you, Samuel Kamau Wanjiru

19. A story is 10-15 feet. One can most decidedly die from concussion from a lesser height.
