The DoD Is Now Officially Begging For Dollars
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (DoD? Gannett?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.
To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: I suspect they are concerned about all those expensive 'toys' they are buying. Perhaps they should stop buying some of those toys and take care of the people in the military.

Volunteer organizations such as the Armed Services YMCA, which help support military families, will have to redouble their efforts as defense budgets decline, two of the nation’s top uniformed officials said.

4. Just one less carrier would save a ton of cash...
Bad enough we build these things when the Navy says they don't need or want the, but then we have to man them, put planes, munitions, food replacement equipment...find or build frigates, cruisers destroyers, tenders...man and equip them just to service a single carrier, that again, the Navy says it doesn't want or need and one can see why military budgets skyrocket.

The AF, Army, Marines are no angels in this either. I recall way back when, we couldn't get 5.56 ammo for M-16's, but the Army was spending gobs of cash on "gee-whiz" shit that had nothing to do with current missions. The AF was claiming, like the Luftwaffe did decades before, that control of the air guaranteed victory...didn't work, thing is, w/o boots on the ground, you can't win.

I think Sun Tzu's The Art of War should be required reading not just for everyone in the military, but those that fund it as well. First, know your enemy, second, realize that often the best way to "win" a war is to avoid it in the first place.

8. No, no, NO!
Cutting funds for supporting military families? Is that a joke?

Meanwhile, DoD is spending BILLIONS on untenable weapons systems, dubious research and a bureaucracy that would put Mandarin China to shame.
