Tennessee House Passes Bill to Overrule Nashville Ordinance
Monday, April 25th, 2011, by Joe White

Metro Nashville’s new anti-discrimination ordinance, which restricts city contractors from discriminating against people because of sexual orientation, would be overturned by a measure which cleared the state House of Representatives Monday.

Representatives from Nashville and Memphis argued against the new measure, saying cities have a right to create their own work environments, without being told what to do by the state.

And Representative Jeanne Richardson, a Memphis Democrat, expressed moral outrage. “I personally think, as a moral issue, that discrimination against gay people about jobs, is wrong. I personally strongly feel it’s wrong. So what this bill really is, is anti-gay.”

Richardson’s accusation was refuted by Williamson County Republican Glen Casada, the bill’s sponsor. Casada maintains he simply wants to keep the state from having a proliferation of different work rules in different cities and counties. “This is the salient point of this bill – do you want one town, or six or eight towns, in this state, telling every business, that if you do business with me, you will comply this way.” Casada’s bill would retroactively undo the Nashville anti-discrimination ordinance.

3. Yeah, they're SO small government..........
until it interferes with their big government plans.

I'd like to see my town IGNORE the state legislature and STILL enforce the ordinance.

outrageous acts of depravity, stupidity, and reichousness. :patriot:

6. Oh for cripes sake!
How ignorant and full of hate do you have to be to actively legislate in favor of discrimination in an area where the people voted against it? :banghead:

9. So they don't want "a proliferation of different work rules in different cities and counties."
Then make discrimination illegal statewide.

Problem solved.

11. And in our TN Senate yesterday, Rethugs voted to keep us using unverifiable voting equipment.

Don't blame the people of Tennessee for any of the anti-American inanity coming out of our state legislature right now. Instead, thank the reich-wing Dominionists who program our voting equipment that has replaced moderate Republicans and moderate to conservative Democrats in our legislature with ignorant, overt racists, pug-ugly jackals and Hooters girls. (Really.)

12. Rumor has it that this action has already cost us a new workplace that would hire 1,400 workers.
Way to go, so-called pro-business bigots.

If anyone wants an example of the Stockholm syndrome in action, take a few minutes to view the kinds of Rethugs who are pushing the anti-gay agenda down here. Talk about self-hatred.
