Another Dem jumps into race against Sen. Scott Brown
Another Dem jumps into race against Sen. Scott Brown
By Shane D'Aprile - 05/09/11 01:50 PM ET

Newton Mayor Setti Warren (D) announced his Senate bid Monday, taking direct aim at Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) in a lengthy announcement video posted on his campaign website.

"I'm probably about as well known as Scott Brown was at this point two years ago," said Warren, an Iraq war veteran and the state's first popularly elected black mayor.

Warren calls Brown "an honorable man," in the video, but says "he has not been the independent voice in the Senate that so many expected him to be."

Warren is the third Democrat to get in the race against Brown, joining businessman Alan Khazei and activist Robert Massie.

1. The regional Powers That Be have gone on an all-out assault on Warren.
The local news has declared Mr. Warren to have disgraced the office with his rank opportunism. They proved it by interviewing a republican council-woman from Newton who said just that.

Warren must have some serious mojo to have drawn instant flack from the establishment. Black, liberal, veteran, telegenic outsider... oh I get it, a serious challenger to asshat brown.

2. The Warrens are a wonderful Newton family. I knew his dad, Joe
Warren when I worked in Newton. Impeccible reputation. Setti will get a lot of support. Probably the biggest knock on Setti is that he's a first term Mayor.

3. He knows his way around the role of a Senator
He used to work for Senator Kerry before he ran for Mayor of Newton.

4. We need to win this seat back
We never should have lost it in the first place, but we won't have a hope in hell in hanging onto to the Senate if we can't even win in Massachusetts.
